Install Utility Conduits or Pipes
At 0:22 in
Pretty much everything in one trench
What happens here
Once the trench is prepared, carefully install the appropriate conduits or pipes. The video shows grey PVC conduits, commonly used for electrical lines, and a blue flexible pipe, possibly for water or communication. For rigid PVC conduits, cut sections to length using a pipe cutter or saw, then join them with appropriate fittings (e.g., couplings, elbows) using PVC cement to ensure watertight and secure connections. For flexible conduits, ensure gentle curves to avoid kinks. Lay the conduits neatly at the bottom of the trench, ensuring proper alignment and continuous run from the origin point (e.g., main utility panel) to the destination. Ensure all conduits are secured as necessary to prevent movement during backfilling.
Goal: Securely place the utility conduits or pipes into the excavated trench.
Tools and materials
- Flexible Conduit — For water lines, communication cables, or other flexible utility needs
- Level Any standard level — To ensure proper slope for drainage pipes or horizontal alignment for other conduits
- Measuring Tape Any standard tape measure — For accurate measurement of conduit lengths
- Pipe Cutter or Saw Various brands — For accurately cutting PVC and other pipes to size
- PVC Cement Various brands — To permanently bond PVC conduit sections and fittings
- PVC Conduits — To house electrical wiring or other utilities
