Permeability

What happens here

Instead of filling the wider gaps of the permeable pavers with sand, they are to be filled with very small stone. This small stone allows water from both the patio and the pool deck to pitch directly into these permeable joints. Once in the joints, the water passes through the small stone and drains straight down into the prepared sub-base layer beneath the pavers. This effectively manages surface runoff, preventing water from pooling on the patio.

Goal: Ensure water drainage through paver joints.

Tools and materials

  • Broom — Sweeping the small stone into the paver joints
  • Plate compactor — Compacting the pavers and stone infill for stability, if applicable to the paver type
  • Shovel — Scooping and distributing the small stone
  • Small stone — Filling the wider gaps between the permeable pavers to allow water drainage
