Painting in a Tight Spaces. Rolling Hallways.

space in this hallway I want to give you some tips and tricks how to do an accent color in this tight space right here first thing we're going to be adding some socket blockers I got my frog tape down um you know this little tight space I'll just put some paper down I'm not going to get a drop cloth in here um you know it's too small to put something in here drop wise the paper is going to be just fine now I can't use an extension pole in here so we're going to be working on a ladder with just a nine inch roller and um without an extension pole we're going to be doing our cut ends first and then we'll be rolling so how do you work in a tight space we're going to figure this out here you can't see here I don't need to get it perfectly straight line but I don't want to get paint on my trim some of the Mask my trim right here frond tape just protect that that's all it is probably stay white right there it's all the cabinet part we'll mask off this right here this is part of our tight space hallway get it nice and tight get straight just manipulate it because I got everything masked off we'll begin the caulking I've got a couple options I typically cook with either Tower type 2 clear or I'll use Tower accelerator Tower accelerator it's a 50-year coffee and it was actually designed to be painted over I'm brushing all over it instantly you don't have to wait any period of time over flat paints it won't crack either painting on it you know right away we're using a matte paint right here I've tested I'm doing some testing with this product um it's bare Dynasty so I've used a tower um the clear because I like the clear better because the consistency is a lot thinner it's easy to work with it's not good for filling gaps but if I don't have any gaps to fill on when I'm doing my cut ends I'm going to always side towards using a clear caulking because it's just thin or easy to work with dry slower also but if you're using flat paints I would highly recommend Tower accelerator because it's not going to Iraq flat paints are notorious some cracking over the top of caulking but being a suit that bears high-end paint Top Line paint we're going to experiment with it on that wall and see how it performs I'm going to be using tower accelerator on the inside of this tight space right here and we're going to see the difference between the two but once again a white coffee's got you know more pigment in it more solids it's heavier body and dries a little bit faster don't need to be worrying about caulking inside here because it's going to be cocky right here and these two sides right here and that way I get perfectly straight lines on my tape using this super dark color accent color I don't want any type of bleeding that's really thin it could bleed on any type of imperfection on your tape so you definitely want to caulk it so I'm going to come put my masking down paper down we're gonna caulk and then get ready to paint so here's my nine inch roller got my four inch um roller also you know why don't I use an 18 inch roller so on this bedroom here this is where nine inch roller is just more versatile like an 18 inch roller be really difficult to work in here with an 18 inch roller I don't have to use two rollers I could just use one the nine inch is perfect for you know just a single bedroom just gonna be putting on small tiny bead of caulk I'm going to be working just this one section right here because say the the white caulking dries faster especially a tower accelerator it dries quite a bit faster than a clear caulking so I want to get it on then I'll begin painting right over it right away just a handy little tip of things are drying too fast for you you'll turn down your heat open up a window anything to cool it off it's really hot in here and I opened up two windows it's really cold outside to cool it off in here give me a little more working time with my pain and my caulking so I got it brushed on definitely want to back roll it to stipple it so it's going to be consistent with a rolling wall foreign use my four inch where I can once again we're in a tight space here so four inches is going to work good in a tight space so I'm using a three foot ladder we're getting a little space here cutting in with a brook from Premiere brush three inch angled sash brush it's absolute perfect brush for this paint and the consistency on this paint I'm using today I'm going to work over the door before I roll if you're not fast cutting in you have a start probably would be your cut ends first up top and then go down where you're going to do caulking because you just don't want that coughing and the paint over the caulking to dry or you're going to get what we call bridging and it peeling from the wall to the tape but this is a small area I can cut it in super fast so I'm comfortable starting at the bottom first in a small area like this I don't need to use a nine inch I'm just going to fill this in with my forage you can see how fast this Brook Cuts in just the right stiffness for this paint a tight space four inch it's going to work just fine if your layout is from top to bottom I'm going to fill it in I'm going to do my layout so this matches my wall the opposite side now working in a tight space an extension so I'm just going to be using a nine inch same thing I'm going to unload if you're tall enough you might be able to reach from top to bottom and I can actually reach from top to bottom don't put too much pressure on your corner right here you'll get too much stuff spilling over and you'll get a heavy Edge so don't want to get a heavy egg so just hold it lightly light pressure unload load back up you see I'm constantly loading it's a one coat paint you don't want to run your paint out I'm laying out from top to bottom keep consistent with your layout either top the bottom or bottom of the top top to bottom works the best for me if you're too short now you use a ladder I can just step up on one step on a ladder show you what that looks like [Music] I'm gonna unload I can use one step on the ladder Step Up step back down now this wall is done working in a tight space we're going to move over to here I'm just going to pull my masking now before this dries as you can see with coffee accelerator we've got perfectly straight line right there you pull your tape while the paint is wet your tape is less likely to splint or two versus one the paint dries so now opposite wall it's a tight space I want to make sure I don't touch the opposite side of this wall with my rear end I've got this cut in to do right here so power accelerator [Music] small tiny bead once again all this is doing is really wetting the edge of the tape the white caulking is drier than the clear so you don't have as much working time I can feel it it's like drying really fast partly why you can paint over it right away remember it's always hotter up top up here too so your cut ends are going to dry faster than what's down lower matching the stippling from the rest of my project from top to bottom pulled away from you at an angle all right there you have it just painting in a tight space some tips and tricks you know what it's like and not a lot different but just um eliminating an extension pole and possibly working up and down a ladder to um you know get your layout done
