Paint Your Ceilings FAST and EASY! Best Way To Paint Ceilings

this Christie Idaho painter here on paid live TV today this is part four of our series do-it-yourself painting your own home we got McKenna once again my daughter in her house and yesterday we spent the whole entire day we shot three videos we shot how to patch holes in the walls and then we shot how to prep your trim and how to spray your trim so we spent the entire day painting the trim now today we're gonna get on to the ceilings I'm gonna show McKenna how to roll her ceilings with a pressure roller or inner fed roller so stay tuned for this video [Music] today's video is brought to you really cool things you can purchase and buy but today we've got an inner fed roller right here from Titan we've got a Titan 440 impact and we're gonna be painting ceilings today so we've got the whole downstairs we're gonna be painting mcinnis ceilings and are you excited to have your ceilings painted McKenna so you have three options to do your ceilings you can hand wall your ceilings you can dip them in a bucket or you can spray them which is really really fast or you can use an inner Fed roller and the difference between an inner Fed roller in an airless sprayer is is you're not gonna have a whole lot of dust created by spraying this thing's gonna be not as fast as an airless sprayer but it doesn't it doesn't have dust and it's way faster than roll hand-rolling and dipping out of a tray you got your lights up here we're gonna have to cut around your lights so we're gonna need a bucket and brush to hand cut around the lights we are gonna be using masks hand mascar so we've got a hand master right here because we've got drop cloths on the floor you want it because we don't want to get any paint on your brand-new carpet but then we have a hand master and we're gonna run paper 9-inch paper and tape along the wall to cover the baseboards so we don't get any drips on the baseboards either and so those are some of the basic tools we got drop cloths down here we're gonna get this thing set up we're gonna start rolling you're gonna start rolling we'll be doing the the edges we've got to cut in the edges because we're gonna do our ceilings first and then we're gonna roll our walls so we want to do our ceilings first because we want to be able to cut in looking at the wall and stay because you could do your walls and then your ceilings last but then you have to cut in what we call upside down and that's very difficult to do but we're gonna get on to this the rolling process we've got this is a regular airless sprayer it's got an airless regular airless gun attached to it it's got the extension pole you can add multiple extension poles if you got a high ceiling but it's not difficult to use I'm gonna show you how to use it really quick this is the roller itself it has what we call a manifold inside and this is you can see perforated there's holes inside there the paint comes out through those holes it is a special roller it just snaps together just like this and then it just slides on and clicks on right here so now that things attached ready to go you run it at really low pressure we showed you how to spray trim and how to run an airless sprayer the other day this inter fed roller runs really low pressures it only runs it like 400 psi so a really small sprayer can use it we're gonna be doing gray walls we got white trim pure white trim with pure white ceilings and then a really light gray walls which is gonna look really modern it's gonna go with your style house it's gonna look really cool so now if we're gonna get onto the painting process and let's load up this sprayer I'm gonna show you how to load it up and we'll get Payton alright so we're gonna load up the sprayer McKenna and the thing what we want to do to load this thing up we're gonna take off the roller I want to check make sure my pressure on my sprayer is all the way down we'll just move it up just slightly we've got our intake this is what takes up the paint right here we've got our prime tube into an empty bucket right there and it's set to prime and then we're gonna turn it on and just prime our sprayer first so we'll turn on prime and then we'll check to see if we're gonna load it up once pain starts coming out of here oh my god okay now we just set it to spray and I'll check my pressure my pressure right now is about a thousand and now we're at about 400 right there now we've got to get all the water out of the line from yesterday let's just stick this in the bucket now I can see there's paint coming out Oh get this right over into our bucket we'll run it just a little bit more to make sure it's all paint you want to be very careful not to spray it all over the place just lightly pull the trigger now we got paint running out of there now I'm just gonna attach my roller all right McKenna so now we've got to our masking paper down got a floor protected we're gonna load this thing up I can load it up on the ceiling where I can load it up on the wall we're gonna be repainting our walls so we just load it up right here so I'm just to start pulling the trigger and you'll start to see paint starting to come out and I've just got to work it on the NAP till it gets completely loaded now I'll put it on the ceiling so I load it up now we're all loaded up it's all loaded up now you just start rolling along and all you do is when you need paint when you feel like the roller is getting dry you just squeeze the trigger so you don't continuously you don't continuously it's only when you need the paint so I'm just I'd squeeze the trigger once right there and now I just rolled it and you know you can go about so I just squeezed it twice to cover this area right here is there a certain direction usually so there is this you know it's ideally we're gonna want to work you know from we got the light coming in this direction so I'm going to want to work the ceilings are painted really well from that was one thing these painters did before they coded them really well so I don't think we're gonna have a flashing issue I think what we'll do is we'll work you know this direction on the ceiling so we're gonna just work our way down the wall this way so you know we'll work over here if I'm up against the ceiling here you can see how the NAP will hit the ceiling so I turn it in this direction and you just work in a small block like this now just go back over it and you don't you're just putting just a little bit of pressure now just work down here again push to get myself some paint onto the roller and then once you get a section you do what we do called laying it out just like this we'll lay this out this section now I'm gonna move on to do two more this whole section right here so you're gonna go over here put your roller up onto the ceiling now start to roll and squeeze the trigger put some paint on the roller there you go this is hard now pull the trigger put some get some paint on it so instead of you know you're kind of going into arcing motion just keep it going straight okay actually good yeah I can do it now it looks like it's the pace it's gonna take two coats does it look like it's gonna cover in one coat oh this is hard you don't have to put too much pressure just light pressure squeeze the trigger if we added another extension on it for you and make it a little bit easier this is a flat paint and I'm rolling the ceiling so on the first coat this is gonna be two coats I definitely I don't have to worry about laying it out my second coat is when I definitely want to lay it out let me show you I'll show you how to mask off these lights so we don't get any overspray or any drips on the lights be very careful because the blade is really sharp I'm just gonna set piece of paper on here just tack it on just like that just flip the blade next blade this way so now we won't give any splatters on that this part of the light we're just gonna hand cut around that all right so we're just rolling right along McKenna but with our power roller or inner fender Oller we can't get close to like our lights we got your ceiling fan in the middle we've got an alarm right here and then we also can't get close as close to our edge so what we want to do is just you'll brush all of our edges we want to just take it down you know just you know like an inch down the wall because now we're going to come back once that dries we do our second coat then we're gonna roll our walls and hand cut in our ceilings but you want to be very careful paint around you know these fixtures right here don't get any paint on them but just cut around them and just like this got a nice soft brush and you're gonna have to do two coats so put on you know one coat and then we'll roll it and we'll use a four inch roller so you want to brush it and then we'll back roller because it's gonna be stipple just like the ceiling and we want the stippling to match if you just brush it it's gonna leave brushstrokes and these brush strokes won't match the stippling right here so we'll get you a four inch roller and so you can brush it and then back roll it I wanted to give you one tip when it comes to holding your brush so I like to hold my brush when I'm painting like this I kind of hold it in my hand it just kind of relaxes that's in my and just like this think sometimes I saw you holding the brush you don't have as much control over the brush kind of just like maybe like a pencil and I just hold it and it's kind of just lightly set in your hand not a whole lot of pressure but that's just a tip on how to hold it everybody ends up you know holding it how they like to hold it but what works for you but this is so your index finger with your thumb index finger once again and wrapped around up these are just loosely setting on the brush to help control it so just a little tip on brushes but you're doing excellent it's dry and really fast we'll be able to go around do our cut ends and cruise right along and get this thing finished alright McKenna we've got to our ceilings all done this is kind of cool so we got to trim all done we got our ceilings all done on the lower level unfortunately you have a two-story house but we'll start working on that upper-level later so we're going to get all the kind of the base that the paper pulled off from right here the baseboards we can mask the baseboards and start our start rolling the walls here in the bedroom so we do have our sprayer we're gonna be rolling upstairs and doing the ceilings upstairs later on we don't want our roller to dry out so you do have you have some brush baggies in your pocket there we go so give me one of those so these things are great so our roller if we let it's out here very long it's it's gonna end up drying out and these are expensive roller covers so the brush baggies work really really well in covering up your roller so I can just take a brush baggie just put it on here now I can just cover leave the roller sleeve on I can just zip lock this up right here and that's gonna seal that up and that will keep our roller from drying out right there pretty cool handy little tools brush baggies
