Sprayed Concrete (Shotcrete/Gunite) Application
At 0:18 in
One of my favorite parts of the process of this project
What happens here
Workers, equipped with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety vests, hard hats, and heavy-duty gloves, begin the process of spraying concrete. One worker maneuvers the end of the high-pressure concrete hose, directing the flow of concrete with significant force onto the rebar and excavated surfaces of the pool. The concrete mixture, typically a specialized blend for spraying, adheres strongly to both horizontal and vertical surfaces, gradually building up the thickness of the pool shell. This technique, commonly known as shotcrete or gunite, creates a dense, monolithic structure that is highly durable and resistant to water penetration, forming the permanent shape of the pool.
Goal: Build the pool shell by spraying concrete onto the reinforced structure.
Tools and materials
- Concrete Hose with Nozzle — Directing and applying the high-pressure stream of concrete onto the pool structure
- Personal Protective Equipment — Protecting workers from concrete spray, dust, and potential job site hazards
- Skilled Nozzleman N/A — Operating the concrete spray nozzle with precision and expertise
- Ready-Mix Concrete — Forming the structural and waterproof shell of the swimming pool
