guys can you hear me I want to make sure all everything is good here [Applause] hi what's up what's up tell me if you can hear me okay I'm using a wireless mic today hi hi welcome everybody Welcome to the live hi hi hey man what's popping it's chilly day got rained a lot I am going to be doing a whole lot of exterior sighting culing uh yeah yeah got rained and so once I put all the siding up still need to COA all the uh nail holes the siding Nails um just because if you don't a little bit of rust will start building up water start seeping into it um nobody wants that kind of stuff so you know did everybody have a a good Halloween we uh man I hate this caulking gun cuz it keeps over dripping even when you release the trigger on it see I just released it and it's still still oozing out that's really annoying I don't know how's the weather where you guys are we're supposed to get snow yesterday hence the underlayment and the freeze barrier you know God this gun sucks don't shout that loud I can hear you all the way from the Netherlands uh don't listen to the haters thanks try not to Texas today's cloudy yeah Texas is also kind of wild in the summertime I have neighbors up here that have a cabin uh and they're from Texas so when they want to escape the crazy Texas heat they come and stay up here so also doesn't it like not really get cold in Texas you guys get like 3 weeks of like 3 weeks of winter and by winter from what I hear it's just a little bit cold the UK is always cold the UK is always cold and every time I've only been to UK twice it's always like dark and gloomy I don't think I've experienced any kind of nice days out there Croatia what's up I prefer using painters putty instead of cocking for nail holes painters putty exterior though I mean I could see doing it for the interior never considered exterior I've been getting my butt kicked this uh water membrane that's on it's uh we were delayed on putting it on and the house is flooded from the rain probably four times this is probably the fifth time overnight really frustrating they say it's fine um you know construction materials built to take some abuse like that before he gets an underlayment on there but uh I don't know it kind of really makes you sad when you spend so much money and effort building such a cool place and all of a sudden you know you get poured out don't they have a Ryobi battery powered cocking gun I've heard others yes they do I actually have one um when I first got it my fear was that cuz it's an automatic trigger it's got out like basically there's a little motor that's pushing the caul and I used to think that it would kind of ooze out way too much kind of like this one but I uh I remember using on the the work trailer remember remember when I built that one uh and uh tdb 23.99 thank you appreciate that man that's so kind of you um the work trailer that I did I put flooring at the bottom of it right and when I did the flooring I used that gun the the Ryobi battery part one and I was actually really surprised that it did not ooze out um I actually now that you mentioned it I have it in my trailer but I don't want to leave and stop the live just to go get it so I uh I think I'll just do this till the live is done and then run out and go get it yeah no I'm glad you mentioned that I there's so much stuff that's on my mind with this place especially chasing snowfall that my brain doesn't think logically to be honest with you um you know thinking ahead of certain things just because I think I'm mentally in like a survival mode right now like maybe later on another live I'll give you guys a tour but like you know I got to build an alternative or make an alternative way to get to the cabin here where um cuz because how big that slope is I want to make sure I'm able to get here like another fear that I have right now is getting drywall in here at least inside the house um because I don't know if once snow hits if we're going to be able to bring drywall down here and if so how to get it down into that house the the Hilty hit uh slightly pulls back when you release the trigger oh interesting I didn't know they use that kind of technology in there why did you choose an A-frame I keep getting that question all the time to be honest with you uh I think just for the design of it I think it it's a really cool looking style of build um you know when you think cabin you always think maybe Log Cabin something cute cozy and I think what's cool about the A-frame it gives you this giant window view right especially the killer view so basically the entire wall is all windows and yeah you could do that with a traditional style house and just window out the whole thing but I think it's just more of the uniqueness of it um that's kind of the idea behind it I don't know a lot of people give me crap there's a small group of people who are into A-frames kind of like there's a group of people that are into like Volkswagen bugs and stuff uh big fan enjoy all the content can't wait to see the finished product thank you thanks for watching big fan of arina's interior she is so skillful she's really really talented um in the design whenever I build something it's just a space right but she comes in and she turns it I guess the best way to put it she brings it to life and you know you never really consider that because I'm just a dumb idiot that swings a hammer are you tracking the expenses on this project if yes you will share it overall I am I'm when I started this project I first got bids from all the contractors and then I create a section of things that I'll do myself like for example the sighting right or the face shed that I'm doing on it and I'm able to keep track of what this thing will cost me and what where can I save money um for example citing something I'm going to be doing myself um you know there's going to be Cedar all up there and a bunch of little accent pieces and the siding guy Char was going to charge me eight grand plus the cost of the siding so I'm able to shave that off the cost um plus I'm saving costs by being my own general contractor on this usually I think a place this size is like 80 grand maybe sometimes a little B more that a general contractor will probably charge you you know and it's it's always different you know those General Contractors sometimes they'll charge you by a percentage you know I've heard as high as like 14% of the overall build so my goal is to build this place under four under $500,000 I I would like to be in $450 um and that includes certain places that I'm saving money myself like doing the flooring myself doing the cabinets um you know doing the tile work painting it uh what else am I doing myself uh the trim work inside the house there's a lot of things that I'm I'm planning uh but yes I will share it all uh and I think I'll also make a U another video of things that I learned as a general contractor that I didn't kind of foresee are you going to have a hot tub outside it makes sense to have a hot tub um not on that side of the house um but possibly on this side in fact where I'm standing here put a hot tub my only fear is a getting the hot tub up here be wiring for that hot tub to be away from the house because if it's close to the house like let's say it's in this little nook and cranny here the snow will slide off and basically bear your hot tub and uh that's my fear with it and I don't want to do that so um I'm still brainstorming about it now keep in mind I'm not going to keep this cabin um a lot of people are asking me if if I'm going to keep it or sell it the plan here is to make money off of it and then get another fixer upper um if you guys followed the abandoned house series that was the whole idea is just constantly like Flip Flip Flip um and I think what I'd like to do is and I don't know maybe you guys are interested in it or not but I want to see if there's interest of people if I created a video showing how to start flipping houses and how to do it with a very small budget entry point like great example is my first flip I ever did I started with 1,300 bucks no yes 1,300 bucks and there's a way to do it right there's a way of like leveraging your uh HELOC which is a home equity line of credit um all this kind of stuff so if you guys are interested in that kind of information I think I'll create like a membership based consultation group that if anybody wants to either a build something themselves as a GC uh or B learn how to start flipping houses um I might just create uh like a little think group that I people would actually have access to me that instead of me just writing out this little stepbystep plan um they could ask questions and kind of go from there what do you guys think um at least uh once the exterior is done you can take your time on the interior yes and to be honest with you we're kind of already there right now um this is right now what's considered dried in and what that means is the roof has a moisture barrier on it they call it felt or whatnot this is ice and water they're siding on it and actually no scratch the siding there's a moisture barrier on the siding um and the windows are on and the doors so if that's on that's considered dried in and at that point you could work on the interior as fast as or slow as you want um my thing is I want to because of the location of it how sloped the roads are the driveway how sloped it is and how much snow accumulates here you just can't bring that stuff in so the goal is to just literally bring as much stuff as we can now that it's dried in and then therefore in the winter time I just have to walk through the snow to actually use you know and build stuff that I need yeah love the live feeds and the A-frame is turning out great thank you I was really wondering how people felt about lives um I remember somebody dm'd me and they're like hey have you ever considered doing a live and then you're just building or doing stuff and I've never really like consumed content like that before surprisingly this is a very light ladder it's like an old school aluminum um I've never consumed live content sorry it's loud sorry sorry oh that's like nails on a chalkboard I've never watched lives and after I did my first one last Friday or last Saturday I actually had a lot of fun doing it um actually more fun than building cuz I get to actually interact with you guys versus you guys just watching my stuff and then I I read a comment way later you guys moving from your main home yeah oh you saw that post yes we uh sold our house um and a huge portion of the reason we we sold it was to allocate some funds to finish this um and also allocate funds to buy the next house um the big idea there is we finished the house so there's no projects there um and since there's no projects there I can't really create content which good I have an A-frame that I'm working on on but typically what I've done for now I want to say8 years actually since the beginning of YouTube is I would buy a house live in it um remodel it and then after two years uh minimum two years actually uh you you pass What's called the capital gains tax that's when uh if you let's say REM buy a house and sell it in a year um or maybe it's not your primary residency and you sell that house you pay capital gains tax which is crazy it's like close to like 30% or something like that um and then if you remodel it but you it's your primary residence and you stay in it for two years um you don't pay any capital gains tax and so that's a good way to start flipping houses save money roll it onto the next house get a little bit bigger house a little bit nicer house um and so that's what we kind of got we were in our house for I think four years um it's all finished uh we sold it we we we made a good chunk of money on it and uh we we are we got a new place it doesn't make sense to do a tour of the new place right now because um well I think it's going to kind of interrupt the the the consistent series of this A-frame I think it' be weird where we're going like excavation Foundation framing Windows Roofing and then all of a sudden oh house tour it I I we will have one I just not right now but yeah by the way did you guys see today's video um it was a Windows video um in fact just because this is live and we can do this uh I'll give you guys the spoiler how cool is that look at all those windows isn't that nuts that's crazy like I was so terrified when ordering those windows that the framing is going to be off cuz this the plans you use like a square plus b square equal C Square so they'll just give you like they are like that triangle piece they'll be like it's 36 in tall and 24 in wide and then you do your own math calculation that what that is right there um but that came out great but this is going back to people asking why the A-frame I mean look at that look Isn't that cool right and then that's your view out of it in fact this is going to be cool too this is behind the scenes for you guys this is fun if you go through the doors here I'll open it I still have the film on it so you know but look how how cold it is in here isn't it wild so you're sitting in your living room and you're just staring at those mountains over there I know it's kind of weird to see it right now just because there's clouds out there but yeah that's probably why we did an A-frame cuz I think it looks like a piece of art you know let me get it from this angle look at that Isn't that cool I think it's cool I don't know it makes me happy I like to do things that make make me happy you know you got to just not focus on what other people think what other people do why you chose to do something you just just do it yourself or do it for you I mean you know grab my cocking gun what else you got here those windows and doors are quality they are quality they're pricey though um I covered the cost in the the video they uh they were close to like 40 Grand and it would have been so much cheaper to go with white um I think it's vinyl windows um but I I've always been um Frugal when it comes to buying certain building materials um like if I was to do a bathroom remodel with Arena and I would tell her to go find me some backsplash she's going to come back with a backsplash that's like you know $600 to $700 for not a lot of backsplash just very expensive backsplash and then I'll go look for backsplash which by the way I have pretty good style and taste so and she'll she'll vouch for me and I'll find the entire backsplash for like 200 bucks which is just an alternative so uh yeah the windows were um one of those moments that I had to kind of M sure about and saying okay listen you're building this property with a killer view with a unique Style with quality products like a metal roof and and crazy cool design don't screw up by being Frugal on the Windows get the nice windows in fact maybe here in a little bit later in this live I'll give you guys a a little Tour on the inside to show you guys the doors cuz the doors I've never installed doors like that exterior doors like this before um and they were you know when you like get like a nice piece of clothing or a nice quality made product you just kind of feel it when you touch it that's the feeling I got from these doors just by looking at them they're super adjustable like you can adjust it like five or six different ways just with screws and not like moving it it's um installs like like pre-balanced already essentially um so you're you're not putting like crazy shims and stuff like that um it has like a fange on the outside so again it just literally you put it in and it's like little to no work needed um so it kind of makes sense when you pay for certain products you kind of get what you what you paid for you know um the interior doors I will probably use like traditional stuff um that's an almost like 99% of the house but for the exteriors and they're all glass too not to mention like it's top to bottom just one giant glass panel which makes it really cool um you always get plenty of light in fact the positioning of this cabin uh has like the sun rises over there and then it sets over there so it's never like blinding you inside the house but you because of those giant Windows you have a ton of natural light which I am a huge fan of natural light gives us a scoop on the deck you want the scoop on the deck I don't want to blow the surprise for the video you know um that'll actually be the next video is the deck so but and for warning um there's a huge mistake that was made on the deck um oh by the way when we got the designs uh drawn up by the architect he included the deck in there right and the center to engineering so so for make sure you're using the right materials for the load bearing stuff um when you send your plans to the contractors in our situation the framers they give you a bid what it's going to cost for labor to do the work and in that bid they included the deck but it what they do is they only include the framing for the deck the rest the rails the the TX deck on it all that stuff that's up to you the steps so they just literally do that kind of stuff and the concrete guy obviously pours the footing before that ever happened so um so what's cool is for them to frame it out it only cost me 300 bucks but they screwed up and I had to fix it and um but you know that's that'll be in the next video I admire how you just pushed through the through the push backs thanks um that's a big one to be honest with you I this is little Insider kind of information of like behind the scenes what I deal with is I I'm always a very optimistic person but after starting this project as you guys seen through the videos it's nothing but headaches uh and I've really started embracing Murphy's Law right where if anything can go wrong will go wrong and you name it whether it's Lumber delivery whether it's Roofing stuff whether it's deck stuff it's all gone wrong and so that being the case every single day I am basically telling myself whatever can go wrong will go wrong and I just have to be okay with it but the cool thing behind all that I know it sounds dark but the cool thing behind that is you learn that every problem does have a solution and you become so much better at problem solving because of that um so if I was to ever quit YouTube and started working for you know a real day job like I did in my pre before YouTube and I had an interview and they were to ask me what are your skill sets I'm not going to say I can build or what not I'm going to say I'm really good at problem solving and that came from on the job training with this how long have you been working on this on this cabin we poured Foundation end of end of August so essentially all of September no we did excavation end of August so essentially all of September all of October today is November first so I would say about little bit over two months maybe like two months and one week and I feel like I am so slow at this but I think it's because I keep myself to a weird unrealistic standard cuz I will when I drw arrive here it's like almost an hour and a half from my house I pass a bunch of new constructions which is crazy that people are in the C you are putting up cabins and all that stuff like right now and they're in the earlier stages than I am so they can get hit with snow anytime and I see how they're still in the same spot they're not really progressing in the build and it kind of reminds me that maybe I'm I need to chill out a little bit being so harsh on myself going like you got to get siding in you got to get Dy wall in you got to get all the stuff in you know some people are are still are going at a different pace and I think I am winning the race if you will you know so yeah what else Zip system is a good probably a lot more expensive yeah I saw that there's a lot of comments on this last video about using a zip system if you're not…
