(16,891 characters)live do you want a metallic finish on a sunday um yeah if you've um ever apply to metallica finishes or if you have a question applying a metallic finish this is your chance so i'm doing a metallic suede in here today so in a commercial bathroom so we're gonna make this bathroom look really cool so using a flex trowel just cleaning it because it got all dry while i was trying to set up the camera gotta keep this thing clean at all the time but simple metallic suede finish from bolero coatings right here simple easy to apply easy to use oh what a knife said hi richard watts is with us so who said hi oh what a knife diaz painting i'm a painter i love your videos i've been learning a lot from this video thanks for being with us yeah on a sunday so what are you guys doing on sunday um you can see what i'm doing chris said it's a tough process takes a few times to get it right he says what's up ladies and gentlemen chris cool oh people are drinking and watching football bill's play today big game with uh pittsburgh so that's the game i want to see when is that one that is at six o'clock i believe so you're doing the walls what are what is the flat walls and then what are you doing with the brick behind you so the brick i'm gonna do um i'll actually show you right now um this i'm doing a suede finish i random roll and then i'm going back and troweling it with a trowel on the brick i'm going to just do a random roll that's what the bricks gonna look like doing it with just a roller because you can't yeah somebody wanted to know what type of roller are you using so this is a um microfiber six inch microfiber i get it from premiere rollers and the microfiber you know works the best when it comes to these metallic finishes gotta make sure you pre-wet it before you start using it and i just work in you can see i'm working in small sections random rolling it getting it all evenly distributed if you don't get evenly distributed it's not going to look right and then i'm just lightly troweling it what's the millimeters of the roller it's a 3 8. it's inches not millimeters you see the metallic finish right here just working out of a 9 inch pan so to prep the walls what did what was the first step in tackling this bathroom so the bathroom was a it was kind of a really ugly yellow antique white color and i painted when you do your metallic finishes you want to undercoat them do an undercoat with a matte finish i used on the walls i painted the walls with a regal benjamin moore regal uh select i used a flat this time i've never used a flat before if i wanted to see how a flat worked and on your first coat of flat is it's too flat and it sucks up too much of the metallic finish too fast it makes it so you don't have as much working time it's better to use a matte finish you don't want to use a satin or you don't want to use a gloss because then the metallic finish is going to smear around so you just did that spot of what you're going to do on the brick wall just doing the random rolling are you concerned that if you wait till that dries to go back and you'll be able to see that spot so that's a good question so one of the things about bowero coatings unlike all metallic finishes or um faux finishes decorative finishes that i've ever used if you did something like that or if you stop in the middle of a wall if you started back up like the next day you're gonna see exactly where you started it started and stopped and you can't touch up right in the middle of a wall with bowero coatings you can quit right in the middle of a wall come right back the next day and continue right on or i can do a touch-up right in the middle wall and you won't even see it it's one of the big advantages with these coatings they're very forgiving um you know for people that can't finish the job at once but also once again for if you hang a picture on a wall or something like that you can come back and patch it up which most decorative finishes you can't do that anymore or decorative finishes of old days like a ralph lauren and finishes like that but using i'll show you how flexible this trowel is see how flexible that is it's a flex trowel from bowero extremely flexible and it makes um applying these metallic finishes really easy to do random roll so um richard watts said he's a decorator from uk watching your videos has made him a better painter love your tips plus he's passed on tips to his friends that are in that are painters which is awesome to hear because that's what paint life is painters helping painters that's what we're here for cool um i don't know maybe uh lisa will give out some gift cards today to our store we have a tendency to do that on our live shows the people that are taking their time out watching me watching my videos we hand out gift certificates to our store so i don't know are you in the gift certificate mode lisa yeah but i don't see not a lot of people are chatting so they have to chat to let me know they're here and cd said is there a reason why you're not using a sprayer for this curtain job a sprayer so um this is a metallic suede finish and you'll never achieve the look that i'm trying to achieve by spraying it on you would just get a just even finish across the entire surface and it would never have um the suede look to it so this in real life i know you're not here you're not um you can't see it in real life but in real life that has a suede look to it it's actually really pretty feels like suede when you rub your hands over it so it's really cool so chris currently i'm stuck between a pro x17 versus titan 440. um hands down titan 440 over the pro x 17. um i wouldn't be stuck any longer i would get the titan is painting in all directions causing the suede look so the random trolling or the random rolling gives it the sway this the troweling gives it the suede look and you have to do it in all different directions to get that suede look so i'm doing like this arcing motion and i'm doing it once again in different different directions so yeah you're correct oh somebody just asked why the trowel that you were just explaining why the trowel yeah so so the trowel itself the trowel is what gives you the suede like if you ever look at suede suede has this um smooth look to it but you know if you rub the suede one direction for the next it kind of changes colors you know depending on the direction you move the suede around in so this metallic finish in real life it looks just like suede it's really cool but yet it has a metallic look to it so cd we are going to send you a 25 gift card but to receive it what do they have to do so anytime we give away our gift cards you have to go to our store which is um at paintlifesupply.com and at the bottom of the store there's a little help icon where if you can ask questions about the products in the store and get help about products in the store just click on that little help icon and somebody from the paint life crew will uh reply back to you get your address um and get and get your email address so we can send you a gift card so go down to the cd paintlifesupply.com i gotta grab my buckets i gotta stop by you because i get more product here so the one good thing cd is we do sell the titans um on our store since you are in canada i know there's customs that have to be paid and we don't control that but you can look look at what we have going on and maybe we can help you get your sprayer yeah alex said he started his own company this summer in your videos definitely helped make them better more confident painters greatly appreciated so alex we're excited that you started a new business this year because 2020 has been an interesting year so we want to give you a 20 gift card to 25 gift card to our store and one more time could you tell them how to get it chris yeah so anytime we give out our gift cards our store is a paint lifesupply.com so go to paint live supply and um you know we're there to help our customers out so we have a little chat icon that you can chat with somebody actually live and hit that little chat icon down bottom right corner uh and just saying hey what you want what your name is and um email address where you want it and give your email address somebody will get a hold of you verified that you did win it and you'll get your gift card emailed to you emailed to you so we have to have an email gotta have an email gotta have an email um one thing like doing here i'll give you a little handy tip doing these metallic finishes you can see blue tape i'm using blue frog tape see this is frogtape blue and your metallic coating won't bleed underneath these coat on this tape so always mask with frog tape so i got frogtape green i got frogtape blue the blues same thing it's just a little less expensive because the paper is not as expensive and it comes in four packs so um i'm using frog tape around all my edges because you have to in order to do your edges you jam your roller into the edge to get your metallic finish up against where you're um doing so you definitely want to use frog tape you do not want to use just regular painters tape fog tape is a must it's the absolute somebody said it looks really thick is it uh so a coating let me show you um and get a close look at this so look how thick it is so that's some thick stuff yeah don't do that how do you keep from getting golfers elbow from all the painting um you know um i actually have call for zelbo um and i have a tennis elbow too and it's um to me well it's a not only a combination of painting but um i a weightlifting crossfit and so weightlifting the snatch in the cleaning jerk that um we're doing all the time that um has given me um golfer's elbow and tennis elbow and let me tell you it hurts and it hurts bad um all the time so i go to a physical therapist do a lot of stuff to you know help it out so um yeah i'm not immune from injuries that's for sure um so good question so somebody said do you go to plumber idaho do you know where plumber idaho is um i don't know specifically where it is but i've actually heard of it so yeah so where where how far away is it from boise we're in boise yeah i'm in um we're in boise i know great um statewide though oh cd just gave us a 10 super chat thank you did not need to do that we appreciate that thank you very much thank you very much chris r says this is the same building as rolling the walls fast video um is it the same well i've got quite a few videos i believe it is rolling the walls fast but um it could be yeah i believe it i believe it is for that video don our gooseneck guy is with us he said good afternoon snack gooseneck is one of the must-have tools every painters have get yourself a gooseneck if you don't have one it's absolutely amazing tool so walter lives in san francisco and he likes your videos he's checking out our online store so walter since you're checking out our online store we will give you a 25 gift card to our store you just need to go into the chat box say you won on this show and give us your email address and we will email you a gift card there you go gift card sunday this is what it is alan austin says paint first or carpet first when remodeling um so that's a good question so yesterday i was working on an interior and the homeowner started doing the floor first and before the painting a remodel and i went in there and i was like no no no they're putting in um hardware hardwood floors and i'm like they ripped out all the carpets so rip out the carpet do all the painting and then install your floors i mean you don't want contractors you don't want people working um all over your new floors even though you can cover it up and everything um rip out your floors do your painting and then put your floors in last your nice beautiful floor shouldn't be walked on until your house is ready to be walked in so that's just my personal preference so well i think we need to have you getting back to this really so you're putting you back to work is what you're saying yeah and i think if people want to see you do that block wall in the random roll you will be on facebook live to show how that's going to turn out yes so um hi dory so i actually did i shot a video in here today um eight tips on applying metallic finishes so that video will come out soon eight cool tips um to doing this and having success and some of it you may know some of it you may not know but um yeah they're just simple little tips to getting finishes like this and one of them is you're working your edges so i work in small sections like three foot sections you can add like a long time open glaze to your metallic coating to give you more working time but your edges you know when you get your product on hit your edges first knock them down otherwise it's going to like dry really fast and your edges will stay stippled and it won't have that smooth look to it so i like to say you know hit your edges and work your edges quickly after doing your random rolls so paul says he seems like you're out of breath a lot in the videos and i i guess it's because he's not an actor and he's actually physically working and talking at the same time so i would say that's probably why but he's very fit that's exactly why because um actually there's not a crew behind you doing this job actually you're doing it myself so i would have to say i'm not gonna brag but i'm pretty dang fit so i do crossfit um in crossfit there's a lot of cardio work i ride i actually ride in race bikes bicycles so my cardio i'm fairly fit but once again you know i'm sitting here talking fast moving all around this bathroom and um you know trying to give you guys some tips and tricks and um so it's kind of like this balance of talking and working at the same time but yeah um i it was funny because right before that comment i'm like you're not huffing and puffing on the video but you're actually working yeah that's that's the point yeah because that that's um and this is what kind of what i like to say you know my videos a lot of the videos out there these um large corporations painting companies and stuff they make these videos they teach you how to roll a wall and they do this this x pattern thing and stuff like that and in 100 of the videos um they're actors who've never painted and they're just um you know making these videos and they're not real world painters and they're not teaching you real world techniques i'm teaching you what i do that works for me out in the field actually makes me money and and makes my customers happy and works for me it's not necessarily the the right way the only way but it's a way that i do it and it's me actually working in the real world and teaching you you know what a real world pro uh if you want to consider me a pro actually does so um i'm just you know another painter with another opinion out there so um so um jeffrey chambers says do you recommend the self feeding roller is it worth buying the self feeding roller um oh the cell is so the inner bed roller um it's worth every penny and 10 times more if that thing actually costed three times more money then it does it would be only worth it so you need to buy one they make you a ton of money if you're in the business of painting to make money so they're worth every penny and you'll learn how to set them up and clean them up really fast it seems like in the beginning that it wouldn't be worth it but it actually sets up just as fast as setting up any airless sprayer and i can't even tell you like how many thousands of dollars i've made using one of those things so yes get one buy one must-have tool [Applause] so if you want to see him doing that block wall we will be on facebook live in a bit and he's going to finish this up yeah it's starting it's looking um pretty dang cool i'm going to say this is actually looking better than i thought it was going to come out so when i get it all back together if you want to see the final product when i do my eight tips video eight tips applying metallic finishes we're gonna have the finished product all done and you can see what it looks like but it took me you know a couple hours to undercoat it and this metallic finish it um if it wasn't you know sitting here shooting all the videos and doing live shows it would take me about three hours to do uh two coats of this metallic finish on here and it's a money maker this is um a twelve hundred dollar job you know somewhere between eight hundred and twelve uh hundred dollars to do this job so if you're you know want to apply um decorative coatings and metallic finishes and there's the market where you're at you can make some really good money all right i've gotta i'm i'm gonna get underneath the seat because i gotta do underneath the sink um because no stone gets left unturned when i do um metallic finishes i gotta get going we'll see you
