LSXcalade Explained: Intercooler Design and Fabrication Process
What happens here
The charge air path involves routing the air from the twin turbos, through the custom intercooler, and into the engine. The presenter shows the custom red intake pipes connected to the turbos. He explains that the two custom end tanks on the intercooler, which appear to slope with the headlight lines, taper down and feed into a single outlet located on the back face of the intercooler. This single outlet then connects to a custom-fabricated discharge pipe, which directs the cooled air to the engine's intake manifold.
Goal: Connect the intercooler to the turbos and engine via custom charge pipes.
Tools and materials
- Clamps — Securing pipe connections
- Custom discharge pipe — Connecting the intercooler outlet to the engine intake manifold
- Custom intercooler Custom — Receiving air from turbos and cooling it before sending it to the engine
- Engine intake manifold Chevrolet — Receiving cooled air from the intercooler
- Red turbo inlet pipes — Connecting turbos to the intercooler
- Turbochargers — Providing boost pressure to the intercooler
