What happens here
With the paver base prepared and the pavers laid to the desired pattern, the wet fiber-reinforced concrete mixture (such as Perma Edge) is applied along the outside edge of the final row of pavers. A worker uses a shovel to scoop and place the wet concrete directly against the vertical side of the pavers. The concrete is mounded up to create a sloped "curb" or haunch that provides strong lateral support, locking the pavers firmly in place. This forms a continuous, robust barrier that prevents the pavers from shifting, spreading, or settling, thereby ensuring the long-term integrity and stability of the paver installation. It is crucial to press the concrete firmly against the pavers to ensure maximum adhesion and support.
Goal: Install a durable concrete edge to secure the paver pathway.
Tools and materials
- Fiber-Reinforced Concrete Mix Perma Edge — The material used to create the secure and reinforced paver edge
- Safety Gloves — To protect hands from the abrasive and caustic properties of concrete
- Shovel — For scooping and applying the wet concrete mix along the paver edge
- Trowel — To smooth and shape the concrete edge for a clean, finished appearance
- Water — For mixing dry concrete if a pre-mixed wet product is not used
