(4,402 characters)It's all about the fertilizer today and how the pros do it from the application process to the general upkeep of the equipment. We're going to teach you everything that they know. Now, before we even get started, here's your first pro tip. When you come to the edge of a pool or a pond, go slow, shield down, and stay an extra 12 in away. Now, can you have me that drink? I think now would be a good time to subscribe. That way you can get the latest videos as soon as they're out. Thing we need to clear up is more is not better with fertilizer because you can never leave the material in the hopper overnight or even from one job to the next job. You want to intentionally short yourself so that you run out before you finish the project. That way you can add just the right amount of material and wrap up the job the same time you run out of fertilizer. Here's a pro tip to make your life a heck of a lot easier. Always start at your vehicle and work away from it. Watch the material in the hopper. As you start to run short, turn around and work back toward the truck. That way, when you need a refill, you're back where you started from and you don't lose your place in the lawn. Instead of carrying bags of fertilizer across the lawn, you've brought the spreader back to where the fertilizer is. It's simple but efficient. The first step is to outline the property that you're working on. You're going to run this around the edges of all the hard surfaces and garden beds with the shield down and in place. This will contain the fertilizer and keep it from casting material where you just don't want it. Make a note that if you do get fertilizer on a hard surface and it activates, it can stain, leaving marks behind. That's bad. Just like I tell my kids, don't do what I do. Do what I say. Now, once you've outlined the property, it's time to do the inner field. To make sure that you get even coverage, you simply make sure that the spread of the fertilizer lands in the tire tracks of your previous pass. It's as easy as that. Here's a pro tip. If you're unsure of where the property lines are, simply look for irrigation heads. Follow those. Typically, they won't cross property boundaries. One of the advantages of the power spreader is the machine does the work for you. Imagine pushing around a manual spreader with 150 lbs of material on it all day long. You'd be one tough cookie. Now, you're going to square off your corners. This means that you're going to look and see where the fertilizer is being cast ahead of you and shut the machine off before it comes to a 90° corner. You're going to continue to drive that machine and make the turn and then turn the machine back on. The benefit of doing this is that you're going to have even coverage throughout the lawn. If you cheat and round off your corners, you're going to have a clear brown spot where the fertilizer missed. Just because you're done doesn't mean you're done. You still got to clean and maintain that machine. And here's how we do it. This brand new machine, just after one application, is caked in fertilizer. Kitty wanted to make sure that I told you that fertilizer is so corrosive, it can damage even stainless steel and aluminum. Is that all you wanted me to say? All right, so we're going to take care of that by doing some preventive maintenance to extend the longevity of this piece of equipment. To do the general cleanup of this machine requires just two things, a garden hose and WD40. You do not want to use high pressure on a machine like this because of the bearings and other components. You simply rinse it off and you're done with it. Once you've cleaned up the machine, you're going to want to displace that water using WD40. Thoroughly spray down all the exposed components and you're good to go to the next day. There are some greases on this machine. When you're done rinsing it off, make sure you hit those and push the water out. Powersspreaders.com does use a Honda engine which makes it virtually bulletproof. Where are you going? Oh, you see something you want? But that doesn't mean it's indestructible. You do have to check the oil. When it gets discolored, it's time to change it. Okay, I'll let you go. Go get it.
