John Deere 5065E Mowing Tall Pastures with a Woods Cutter #farming

What happens here

He stresses the need to be hyper-vigilant for baby deer, as it's mid-June and fawns are active. He recounts a sad incident from the previous year where he unintentionally ran over a fawn hidden in tall grass. He also mentions running over three turkey nests this year, noting that usually, turkeys fly away, allowing him to avoid their nests, but sometimes it's unavoidable. He explains his current strategy of letting mowed grass return to the soil to build topsoil organically.

Goal: The farmer emphasizes the importance of vigilance while mowing due to the presence of baby deer and turkey nests, sharing past incidents.

hate to say it, but I was driving the tractor in really, really high grass, which is what we have out here, and the deer went right under the tractor and it went and then squirted out the back of it in pieces. It was so sad. Broke my heart. And I'm really, really trying this year to be hypervigilant. I've scared up probably 15 deer in this field so far over the past four or five days I've been mowing. And I mow about four or five hours at a time so that my back doesn't hurt. Also, I ran over a turkey nest. Most of the time when you run over a turkey nest, you get close to them and they fly away and I can leave that patch of grass around it and the turkey will come back. But this turkey flew and I went right over the nest. I was right on top of him. So, we couldn't save the turkey nest. It's over way on the other side of the field. I've been checking on it with our drone. Just flying over. Try not to scare him. Just go way up high and look down. I'm not seeing the turkey on there. So, bummer. It had about eight eggs underneath it. That's the third turkey nest that I've ran up on this year mowing, too. So, a lot of mowing goes on here on the farm. We're not cutting hay this year. We're letting this go back to the ground. And basically, you can see these rows behind me. And that's just organic matter, that old grass that will go back to the earth and help to build top soil so that when we do start cutting hay, we won't have to put a ton of chemical fertilizer on it and stuff. So, that's the goal here. Our field is huge. It's awesome. 25 acre field right here that we'll be mowing in today and I'll just show you a little bit of footage. So, come on along with me, guys. All right. First thing I want
