(17,161 characters)dig baby dig hey folks this is Josh Stoney Ridge farmer welcome back to the farm today we're gonna be working on old silver this is our 1999 Dodge Ram Pickup we just put a hundred gallon fuel tank in the back of this thing toolbox fuel tank combination and we got a huge deal on this so we only paid a hundred bucks for this 100 gallon fuel tank it has the pump a filter a hose but no wiring so today we're gonna go and wire it up make sure it works so come along on the farm blog today we're gonna have some fun and we're also releasing our newest t-shirt today it's gonna be a good time all right [Music] so before I released this new shirt to you guys i spent a lot of time designing this shirt making sure it was something cool that everybody would like to wear this is the Stoney Ridge speed shop shirt so it features the Grand National Buick over here the Jeep grille in the front and the John Deere tractor there on the sides only Ridge speed shop that's on the front of the shirt and on the back of the shirt it says dig baby dig Stoney Ridge speed shop awesome guys I hope you'll pick up a shirt help support the channel pretty awesome new shirts we just came out with right now let's get busy guys behind the scenes here there's a never-ending struggle with lighting in the garage that's without the light and that's with the light I don't know ok so let's show you what we got here here's the toolbox pretty awesome great old big toolbox that had a bunch of junk in it and some nuts and bolts and stuff like that we got all the stuff that's good out of it and we're going to take the rest of it and throw it in the dumpster so what we have here is a 15-foot fuel hose and I have 20-foot of wire to run this around to the front of the truck where we can hook it to the battery with these little cables basically this is the pump setup and over here is the filler neck where you fill it up it has a filter built in this is the pump and this is come on baby the fuel nozzle pretty cool I don't know do you guys see down in there I don't think I want to put that in my tractor so we'll probably run quite a bit of the fuel that's in this out of it and we'll run it through the old filter first and then we'll replace the old filter with a nice new filter make sure that we've got diesel fuel coming out and not slime and goo so first thing we have to do somebody cut the wire so this was removed from a truck that was traded in at the dealership where I bought my Dodge truck and basically we've just got a wire up right here we're gonna run this wire around to the battery hook it up and cross our fingers that it works I hope it does so first thing we got to do is get this hose out of the way lay this guy back down here next thing we got to do is pull this little cover off I'm assuming that everything here is probably flame proof or explosion proof since this is a fuel tank so it's probably built pretty well I'd imagine there's no water or any kind of moisture damage in here so that will be cool we're gonna take this cover off and then we'll take the wire loose over here on this side should be pretty fun pretty simple hopefully this good deal I got on the fuel tank is a good deal after all pretty excited we'll take and pump the old diesel that's in here out into a bucket that we have burnt an old motor oil in we get rid of that appropriately one more come on buddy I thought I'd be able to get them by hands but evidently not there we go be nice if those were stainless bolts but he can't have everything let's see here I'm gonna need a screwdriver tap tap tap tappy tap tap okay let's Unipro Prius adjustable wrench oh yeah very simple there's a little seal on here like a plastic seal right there and inside here are just two wire nuts I'll get the camera down here so you can see what's up so in here we're just two wire nuts and basically we just need to undo this little fitting right here I've already pre loosened it and we need to pull our wire in through here a little bit and undo it and then it out and then we'll put our new wire in right through there tighten it back down and run it up to the front of the truck sometimes this stuff gets smooth as silk and sometimes it could be a royal pain in the butt keep your fingers crossed that this is smooth as silk so far so good so we have a red wire and a black wire so we'll be sure and wire the red and the black appropriately I'd imagine yep it says do not operate this without the cover plate so it is explosion-proof even though diesel fuel you probably wouldn't have to worry about it exploding it's chilly out my fingers are about to freeze off that's alright though we're gonna suck it up man those wire nuts are on there tight so I was getting ready to say it's kind of a shady work to put wire nuts with a low voltage system in a car you know you would think it would be soldered or something like that man those wire nuts are made of something must be made in America all the fingers are so frozen good gracious man that's the tightest wire I've ever turned there we go nice they put them together good no doubt we're gonna pull out our old wire hopefully we don't get all hung up on something there we go out she goes good stuff there's no little rubber pieces missing or anything like that we'll slide this guy off cuz we need it and we'll dispose of this wire we're gonna slide our little grommet back on here I guess you'd call that a grommet I don't Oh Lord mmm got lucky on that one too that could have fallen way back in there okay we'll slide this guy through slide our new wire into our hole the fingers crossed and I say we might have to lubricate that hole take our razor knife score that soft wire coating on here and this is three wire so what I took out was two wire but I couldn't get two wire at my local hardware store pull it back a little bit and we'll trim off the excess maybe we'll cut ourselves in the face I got a nice trash pile working up over here so this is basically a UV resistant wire made for making outdoor extension cords that I got it my local Lowe's so we'll use the black for the black and then we'll use the red to the white got to remember that so our green is basically going nowhere it's cut off I'm gonna roll it back on itself right here no biggie we'll strip off the black we'll strip off the white and this is stranded wire stranded meaning there are multiple strands of wire versus a solid wire we'll twist that off nice and tight there we go then we'll hook our black to our black and we'll do our white to our red now I guess I could have gone the white to the black but to me that doesn't make any sense when we get ready to hook up our little clamps these little guys our alligator clips will go black to black nice and snug we'll pull this back out and we've got this just loosely but actually it's not even attached we're gonna pull this guy back tuck these wires in here nice and snug and tighten pretty I've been putting this off for nearly a year I bought this toolbox a year ago I don't know why I've been putting it off you know how sometimes you get projects like this and it's just not a priority you put it off and put it off and put it off and then eventually you're you never end up getting it done thank goodness I make youtube videos it gives me motivation to get things done this is gonna be a quick job it's gonna be awesome man I sure this pump works that will be super cool - I think we should pump a little bit out and then we take this canister off this fuel filter off and we see what's inside of it you guys want to see what's inside of a fuel filter that would be pretty cool if I can figure out how to open it up we'll do it now we're gonna go around on the front of the truck this truck is affectionately referred to as old silver so we bought this truck for three grand it's a 99 Dodge Ram 5.9 liter Magnum v8 177 thousand miles automatic and it's rusty it's got some rust issues got some holes on the side the truck is a good truck it's a whole lot of truck for three grand it's a whole lot of truck a great farm truck hopefully we keep this thing for years to come and we use it a lot on the farm alright we're gonna run this wire all the way back here this is 20 feet of wire I probably won't need all that much but I got it extra long just in case I did would be better to have too much than not enough I told the guy dude don't you don't have to put so much tape on it but you put a lot of tape on it he said it just makes it look neat I like my local Lowe's good people Chad and Shelby North Country off-grid Chad gave me this knife awesome stuff guys if you don't know about North Country off-grid check them out Chad's probably gonna watch this thanks for the knife but same thing we're just going to skin this guy back probably about two right there trying to do a good job nice neat job not make a mess it's stiff that's cold it's in the 30s out of here I run hot I don't know if any of you guys run hot my wife is always cold and I am always burning up hot drip it back and get rid of that throw that in the second trash pile now we remember our green wasn't used and our black goes to our black white goes to our red and that right all right we'll get rid of our green snip him back and we did have just the right amount of wire so we're gonna open up our these are called battery clips we're gonna open up our battery Clips here throw that in another trash pile and inside these battery clips you have basically a little clamp and we just want to slide our wire into there and clamp those little clamps down make sure it gets a good connection and then we slide this back over so for the black one we'll slide this guy on here slide him into place we got to strip the wire always like to start with the black one first so basically we're gonna insert this wire right into a little hole here slide it through just like so and then we'll take a pair of pliers and clamp it down into place same rocket science the rocket science parts gonna come at this pump doesn't work everything's connected good there we'll slide this protective thing right over top looks good just like it came that way you can see there's a little tab right here just insert into this little tab twist it a little bit as I go in there we go getting smarter as we go clamp it down into place like I said the same rocket science now here's something really smart that I just did you want to see something smart I just did do you think that that's gonna reach across those battery terminals no black to black red to red no pump noise I hear no noise from the pump we got to go back and check the pump it's got power no doubt about it it could be a good reason why such a good deal here let's see hmm here goes we get a bucket that would be smart I was getting ready to spray fuel into the bed of the truck whoo let's try it in the bucket here and see if maybe this has to be on Oh No my handle just fell apart uh-huh I don't want this to be a fail this has got to work why is this made like that hmm this was supposed to be simple let's try the old military fix all right this is the point where I asked my viewers does fuel have to be up to the pump in order for it to work does it have an automatic shutoff when there's no fuel in the system could that be the issue here there is a plug that I can remove right here do I need to prime this do I need to prime the system let's take this plug and loosen it and see what if she does here loosening the plug don't a ridge speed shop I'm getting ready to get fuel all over my face I can feel it coming so here's the plug down in there it doesn't look crusty or rusty or anything well figured it out guys totally figured it out though uh very very simple so this is an actuator that starts the pump [Applause] whoa-ah and diesel fuel it's coughing out along with look at that I guess this thing was engaged there's like a rat's nest that came out of there so we're gonna crank this dude up and see what comes out oh man it's a gusher this is the grossest that's coming out of here and there is it looks like water in there but we'll keep on working this looks like we're gonna work good pump is on building pressure uh yucky yucky yucky I've got a little bit of fuel leak right there I think if I barely squeeze it it's holding pressure but man that's some gross stuff need to run this pump nasty nasty nasty stuff I want to squirt some into a jar and see what it looks like so here's the setup I've got one of these containers right here that had some cashews in it and we're gonna take loose the fuel nozzle we're gonna get diesel on us that's it it's gonna be a good time so we're gonna pump it in here and see what it looks like this is gonna make a mess whoo yeah it's making a mess I want to see what we're getting out of here see doesn't look it looks foamy a little milky and there's some sediment floating in there I think we're gonna let that settle and see what it looks like see if there's water floating on the top of it or water in the bottom there's no water in the bottom the water would go to the bottom let's pour that out oh god bad day to wear the gym shoes on the shop my shoes are soaked with diesel fuel there is a leak coming from right here I've got to solve that right now shut my pump down oh yeah I may end up having to replace this but for now I'll just take a shoe full of diesel fuel guess these are going in the wash I'm gonna have to wash my clothes with super clean tonight all right let's crank it back up there we go pump digging baby whoo the pump is working awesome the mess is not so awesome I'm gonna set this to the side for just a few seconds and see I don't see any trash in here at all all I see is nice clean diesel fuel I wish I would have used off-road diesel so I could see the purple or the pink in there but I'm gonna set this down and see if the bubbles are just from the pump I'm splashing diesel fuel all over the shop oh yeah you must be running dry shut er down Beaufort sucking mud we're gonna try and pull this old filter off and put the new filter in place here this is the new filter it is a yard and farm diesel fuel filter I should by theory be able to grab this and twist it off in theory but Oh depending on what Theory you subscribe to man they're coyotes over by my pond I can hear them you pin okay that won't work we'll go get the right wrench maybe this is supposed to be Oh smarter smarter here we go now all you gotta do is be a little bit use a little bit of the old smart ins we just rotated that up a little bit and off comes the fuel filter full of yuck and rust I can see that yeah we're gonna try and take this apart so you guys can see inside of it but that's what it looks like inside let me rub it I've got some rust in there look at that nice yeah it had some yuck in it I think maybe a can opener or a saw where we go cutting that one apart let's make sure our new one which has been sitting on the shelf for a year let's make sure it's gonna match up I think it will oh yeah yeah it's gonna match up great start this in the trash pile take a rag and I want to wipe out here real quick make sure there's no rust up in there guys fuel attracts water it just attracts water the humidity or the moisture content of fuel is lower than the atmosphere and therefore water goes to the fuel little fuel science for you okay we'll rub a little bit on the gasket here and put it back together with our fingers crossed yeah baby nice put it on good and hand tight rad all right let's cut this fuel filter open see what's inside my brain tells me that this is the appropriate tool for this job so let's try and cut it open oh yeah nice all right there is that that's the lid the top to it and inside this canister is the fuel filter let's take it out oh that's nasty roti look at that oh man Oh gross it's a paper filter and it is L Roache oh man nasty down in there is a spring so that's what the inside of the fuel filter look like soon we can shake some stuff out that's what we just pumped out of this fuel canister Wow well I learned some I hope you guys learned something too we had some fun here today on the farm blog we got the fuel tank wired up it works that's awesome we got an awesome deal on it guys be sure you found that like button subscribe to the channel if you're not already subscribed and if you haven't clicked the bell icon down there click it so you get notifications when I post a new video we'll see you next time on the Stoney Ridge farm I had fun with this one that's pretty cool I had no idea that there was a paper filter in there nasty good stuff we'll see you next time on the Stoney Ridge farm all right whoa by the way we just put a set of flowmasters on this truck and it sounds good stay tuned and we're gonna pull the Buick back in here too I'm bringin here in sweet add some ways to be story plenty long to reach wherever I need it to reach so some lights well get that's a lie yeah white red gold.gold orange orange gold orange roof orange sometimes this stuff goes smooth as silk and sometimes it's royal blue tipsy shudder damn Beaufort she's sucking mud
