Installing Cedar Siding Is Easier Than you Think

What happens here

The presenter proudly showcases the completed cedar tongue and groove siding on his A-frame cabin, highlighting the beautiful aesthetic and the successful implementation of the ventilation system. He reflects on the project's timeline, admitting it took approximately three weeks, which was longer than his initial two-week estimate. Despite the extended duration, he expresses immense satisfaction with the DIY approach, revealing a significant cost saving of over $8,000. The total material cost was $7,000, with an additional $1,300 spent on miscellaneous items that were not initially quoted. The final stage will involve staining the entire cabin, which he believes will further enhance its appearance.

Goal: Review the finished siding project and understand the financial savings of DIY.

on that road and look at it. And man, this thing looks sick. I'll show you this in a bit. What we do here is go back back back back back. [Music] Boy oh boy did I overestimate how long this is going to take. I honestly thought this was going to take us like 2 weeks, but I think we're closer into 3 weeks. And the problem is you're laying 5 in strips at a time, which is worse than laying flooring. It's just ridiculous. By the time you get to awkward spaces, it's just a huge time drag. But hey, we saved ourselves $8,000 plus by doing it ourselves. And I couldn't be more excited how everything turned out. In terms of price point, originally I spent $7,000 on all the materials that were supposed to be needed that was quoted, but then I spent another $1,300 to fill in all the stuff that they didn't account for, like sophets and stuff like that. But all in all, I'm extremely satisfied how everything turned out. I'm so excited cuz we, as you already saw, got all the fascia painted, all the sophets painted that needed to be painted. Obviously, we're keeping them exposed where they can be. We just have this row to do here, and then this house is going to be ready to start getting the stain. So, make sure you come out, check out the video next week where we'll be tackling staining this entire cabin, and I think it's going to look even more glorious. Thanks so much for watching. In the meantime, here's a video I think you might enjoy. See you. Bye.
