You got an emergency call and the van isn't all the way charged. We're at the end of the day, it's a Friday night. Here's a DC fast charger. Is this level two or level three? This is a 20 kW unit which equates to 100 amp. >> That is awesome. Tell me how much energy we're using. So now go look in and see 8:48 p.m. now? >> Yeah. That's a huge difference. All right, Chris. How long does it say for your van to get charged? >> an emergency call and the van isn't all the way charged. We're at the end of the day, it's a Friday night and we've got it plugged into a regular charger. Uh I'm at 48% right now, 56 miles. >> how long does it say before it's done charging? 2:54 a.m. 2:54 a.m. Okay, remember that. All right, let's use the fast charger now. Here's a DC fast charger. This is a 20 kW unit Mhm. which equates to 100 amp single phase 100 amp and this cam locks in. Now we have the CCS connector. >> CCS, yeah, this is nice. And that gets plugged in here. Okay. Mhm. And uh you can unplug that. Let me turn on the disconnect. Okay. Is this level two or level three considered so? Uh This is the right at the end. Level three starts at 20 kW. >> Okay. Level two ends at 20 kW. >> Mhm. This is 20 kW. >> Okay. All right, so let's turn it on. So what's this uh product called if anyone so we show the viewers that? What's this called? >> This is a portable DC fast charger. Uh you have to contact us if you are interested in something like that. Nobody can just buy this to the average consumer? Um they can uh but you know, you have to really be careful. These aren't that cheap. So uh it's not like something you get on Amazon. Mhm. Okay, let's plug that one in. So it was uh 2:54, right? >> Yeah. All right, so let's unplug this and let's plug this guy in. Now on the screen here it'll say start charging. Yeah. So we're going to do that right now. I'm going to hit start charging. Careful. It's authorizing so it's communicating between itself. So it's doing the control pilot signal, plug pilot signal. Once it's satisfied, then this will convert 20 kW of AC Mhm. to DC. You can hear it now, we're charging up. Oh wow. That is awesome. >> So it's saying right here state of charge 48%. Oh wow. That is awesome. Tell me how much energy we're using. So now go look in and see it was 2:54. Yeah. Go see what it looks like. Let me check. Now it's 8:48 p.m. 8:48 p.m. now? >> Yeah. That's a huge difference. What time is it now? 7:29. 7:29. So we just gained we went from 3:00 a.m. to 8:00 8:30. So this is the original 50 amp. That's insane. It is insane. What a lifesaver. It is. Well, because we have a little fleet and we need this. Yeah. You know, you got to get going you got to get going. So And how about this guy? Is he charged up? Yeah, this guy is full charged. 129 mile range. >> that's Ken's van, right? >> Yeah. So his tools are all in there. Yeah. If you can't wait, you're going to have to take that van and we'll let your van charge up. Yeah. Awesome. If you have a lightning or anything that's CCS Yeah. Cuz this is doing DC fast charging, not AC, right? >> And how does it really convert like from AC to DC? Is there like something in here that converts it? Yeah, rectifiers. Rectifiers? >> takes the AC sine wave All right. right? Yeah. And then it goes into um like MOSFETs or diodes >> Okay. >> that only allow current to travel either positive or negative, right? >> Yeah. So if they put a diode in line of that sine wave when if they put it in positive bias, so then when the sine wave is up it's conducting. So they do it negative biased so that when the sine wave is negative, it's conducting. But they put those together so you have the positive and the negative. I mean, it's more a little more involved than that, but that's basically what it's doing. It's just conducting. It's allowing the current to conduct Mhm. based on the position of the wave and the configuration of the diode. And there's normally four diodes to make a a individual power supply. Wow. And some capacitors and all that, but And that's what That's what this is doing. That is incredible. But in addition to that, it's also using um MOSFETs to step the voltage up because this is actually putting out almost 400 volts right now. It's putting out volts? Yep. 400 volts DC. So normally when you plug into a regular charger like this charger >> Level two? it's AC going in, right? So it's up to 50 um up to 50 amps, let's say. >> Yeah. Uh AC going into your vehicle. Now your vehicle has a built-in charger. So the vehicle kind of is doing a little bit of what this guy is doing. >> Mhm. But that's losing efficiency. That's why DC fast charging is so much quicker cuz you're bypassing the charging feature. Got it. >> Right? >> Yeah. >> You're just putting right to the mains. That makes sense. All right, so we were at 48% when we first started. We had a little discussion here. Yeah. And now we're at what? Probably I'm going to say 50 percent, 52. Uh 49.9. >> Okay, okay. There it is, state of charge 49. We put in 1.17 kW. So I'm paying 20 cents a kW, so Well, that's way cheaper than gas. Now this same amount of charge in like a Tesla charger could be 42 cents a kW. What in a what? Yeah. That's why you want to do it at home. Mhm. Do it at home or do it in your office. Yeah. You think it's cheaper um DC fast charging at your house or AC charging or it's all the same cost? >> I I I don't know how efficient this is. Um I would say just doing standard you know, if you can get away with like, you know, a 32 amp charger and just keep them charged all night >> Yeah. Okay. Only when you're in a pinch you want to do this. You want to charge up fast cuz you got to go somewhere. >> Mhm. Um I would recommend using, you know, DC fast charger. >> this is the future really. Yeah, it is. It really is like Yep. Somebody could lose uh their their battery on the road, right? They run out of miles. You bring this. This can just recharge them back up, get them on the road. Yeah, but then what's going to give them 100 amps output, right? So you're better off not using this but having batteries. Yeah. Have batteries already charged up and then you don't need cuz how are you going to feed this with 100 amps? You'd have to bring a 100 amp generator, right? >> Yeah. So that's like a 45 kVA uh transformer and generator that you would need for this guy. >> Yeah, you're going to need a So that's the thing. Yeah, that would be Might as well put this in the van, but how are you going to feed it? Right. You could see it's really working now. Can I touch the screen? It's touch screen. 50% now. It's working. It's pushing. See that kW is chugging in there, man. Look at that, 1.68. 1.69. Mhm. It's a lot of power. It is a lot of power. And it uses CCS. It's It's This charger is different than this one. Yeah, because that one in your hand is only for AC. Yeah. Right? That's standard J1772 Mhm. or the Tesla only has AC on it. Okay, well the Tesla actually does also have DC plugs, I should say. But if you look at it just look at the end of it. So you got your two hots, your ground, your control pilot and then your plug present. >> Mhm. And then here you have the DC also plugged in. So now this CCS also incorporates that J1772, but it's a dummy. Yeah. It's not using it. It's only using the control pilot and the plug pilot. Those two little tiny pins, that's it's using those and uh it's using the two bottom pins. That makes sense. >> for DC. Yeah, this is J1772 and then the uh Tesla uses NACS. So North American charging standard. >> Yeah. What do you like better? NACS. NACS? Yeah. I'm pretty sure that uh every vehicle is going NACS. >> Yeah, they go in so in and out so nice and easy. Yeah. All right, man. All righty. Awesome. Thanks, Dad. Yeah, cuz it's Friday night I got to get my van somewhere and, you know It's Friday night. Oh, don't forget you got to cut the grass. Cut the grass. Oh man.
