I HAVE SEEN THIS TOO MUCH!...NEW COUNTERTOP MISTAKE THAT IS EASY TO AVOID!!

What happens here

Take a small amount of non-staining plumber's putty (specifically 'Sta Put Ultra Plumber's Putty' is shown) and roll it into a thin 'snake' shape. Wrap this putty around the underside of the flange of the hole plug, ensuring it creates a complete seal. The use of non-staining putty is critical, especially for stone or porous countertops like marble, granite, or quartz, to prevent oil stains that regular putty might cause.

Goal: Apply plumber's putty to the plug for a watertight seal.
