welcome back guys to live and lost offroad today was a big day we picked up a brand new 2005 jeep lj you guys don't know what that is it's a tj with an extended wheelbase the jeep lwb the jeep tju whatever you want to call this thing we picked one up we got a killer deal on it i'm gonna do a walk around video of it soon but today i'm gonna do some work on it i have some stuff i want to get done on it i'm going to do the wench install today i got my spitty got my smittybilt 10 000 pound synthetic line i'm going to throw on here um i gotta fix some stuff with the speedometer a little bit later also and then we're gonna be ordering the high lift jack mount for the hood and then i have my jerry can and traction boards that i am gonna be throwing on the back tonight as well too um i'm just gonna do a general overview of the jeep um tonight too see what i need to get for parts see if there's anything wrong with it there shouldn't be it's super clean and i'll go more into detail about where i got this jeep and how i ended up finding it and the engine and everything else in it and in a later video but tonight we're just gonna be installing the wedge we're gonna be fixing some stuff on the gauge cluster um i'm gonna take a look at the speakers see what they got in there because those will probably get upgraded soon and then we're just gonna sit in the garage and build a parts list for this thing um we gotta get some lights for the front bumper here gotta do the headlights some new tail lights the jack mount on the hood um i'm gonna keep suspension everything the same i'm i'm getting way too ahead on myself guys let's just start with the wench let's start with the gauge cluster and we'll see how it goes from there um let's get this wedge put on all right guys i gotta say that i'm confused by this bumper um i'll show you what i mean here so this bumper normally bumpers have the four bolts somewhere in the front to pull it off of the frame horns but this bumper doesn't it's a body armor 4x4 bumper it's like it's probably a decent bumper 450 bucks or so i'm thinking i have to pull these tow hook things here right here same with on the other side and then if you look underneath here there's these big huge bolts right here one on either side so then you got to pull those and then i got to pull this guard here which is this jeep guard right here and then after that i think there's two more bolts underneath this guard that i have to pull so we're gonna figure that out and then we're gonna pull the bumper and get that wench put on there so i'm gonna try to pull those four or so bolts um like i was talking about i think it's a frame chomp bumper which i really hope that it isn't but i looked inside of it and i think it is which sucks because it really limits my bumper options for this but i guess we'll just end up probably keeping this bumper running it with some flat fenders and see how it looks from there if not then it's just that much more reason to go with a poison spider stubby or something that already requires a pre-bumper cut that would be easy already having the bumper caught already so um i'm getting this bumper taken off here i know i've said it like six times already but i mean this bumper taking off here i think i figured out how to do it so just like i alright guys just like i suspected here we have a bolt here which holds our sway bar on we have a bolt here that goes all the way through the sway bar mounting bracket all the way into the bumper so i think if i pull those two out i may or may not have to pull these and then i pull the bolts on the other side we should be good to go so i'll let you know after i pull these two how it ended up how it ended up going [Music] all right guys so i just got done pulling those bolts which went to the sway bar so then i went ahead and i pulled these hooks off there and these hooks also go all the way through into the frame as you can tell the bumper is super loose already so i think all i have to do is pull this same size bolt on the bottom of the bumper that should allow me to lift the whole thing off and from there we will see if this is a true frame chop bumper or not um crossing my fingers that it isn't but i have feelings that it is so i'm gonna get started i'm gonna pull these other two on the bottom here and then when i have it pulled i'll show you guys well guys i got the bumper off i had one little bolt that's a little stubborn so i put some wd-40 in there got off but exactly what i didn't want a frame chop bumper now guys i feel like it ain't an idiot right now i'm used to jks i've been working on jk for like three years now um i don't know why i didn't realize that tj's don't have the same frame horn that jks do night's already off to a good start it's cool though because you guys are here along with me we're gonna learn about tj's or lj's whatever you want to call this thing a tju whatever you want to call it we're going to learn about it together we're going to learn about these four o's together and six speeds and these transfer cases and the suspension everything is super different from jk so just take this as a learning curve um this is really my first time ever working on a tj so i did a little bit of work on a tj back out in washington i had a buddy that had one and we needed some aftermarket stuff to it and replace some belts and whatnot but nothing like i'm gonna be doing this thing so bear with me here there's no there's no frame horns it's not a frame chop i'm an idiot so let's get this winch installed on here we'll go from there and i'll show you guys what it looks like with the wench back on it what's up guys just got done with installing the wench on the lj and it looks great so here's the winch installed on the lj um it was kind of difficult lining the bumper back up again because it's just so finicky to get the bottom bolt lined up with these top bolts and get angles and everything right but it went on good got the fairlead on got the smittybilt 10 000 pound x20 wench on with the synthetic line and the fairlead got the hook um i don't know whether i want to do the hook or if i want to do or if i want to do this spinny built oh i forget what this is called but you put a d ring through there it kind of goes up into here i'll make that decision at a later date i also don't know if i want to do lights up top here there's a spot for lights on each side you can see the hole there i can put lights on either side or i can do two lights up here i have not decided yet uh leave a comment down below which one you think i should do um but as far as the power i just ran my power cable up underneath the grill here up through here past the fan and the radiator doesn't melt or anything ran it up through here underneath my fuse box and into here so um that's really all all i did super easy install now i'm gonna move on to the back i have to take these super ugly looking tail light cage things off of here so that's the next step and then i'm gonna rip apart the gauge cluster i'm going to put the gauge cluster in here i have some stuff to do on there i'm going to do some wire spray on there and see how it looks so so stand by i'll let you guys know once i finish up the last little bit of this lunch i gotta do test it out see if it works i'll move on to the back all right guys we're in the back of the jeep now i'm about to remove these tail light guards from either side and it's i can't hate on you if you have them i have them on the jk but i have them on a jk for a reason because i bought the tail lights on there super cheap and they have a crack in the side of them so it kind of covers the crack but really these aren't necessary if you see here you can't see it too much when i open the tailgate it actually pulls the light back which i i don't want that to be stressed too much and then my light breaks off and all that so i'm gonna go ahead and pull these i'll show you guys uh how i'm gonna do it here and then i'm gonna pull them and i'll show you guys how it looks when it's done so guys here i have the light cover pulled off and i got the flashlight on there right now but you can see there's two uh bolts in there i'm thinking you just pull those two bolts the whole light comes off and then the rear bracket comes off off of that but this is how they look on there so i'm gonna pull these real quick take them off put the light back on and see how it looks after that what's up guys i just got the cages off the rear tail lights here i'll show sorry i gotta use a flashlight for this dark back here but i really do like the look of how it looks a little bit better than with the trail kit is on i am going to try to sell those chill cages so if anyone's interested let me know shoot me a price whatever but yeah probably tint them black just to add a little bit of extra to there break up the red a little bit but that's really what i'm thinking now uh now i'm going to move into the gauge cluster after i finish that and see if i can get that to work or not i'm gonna go into and i'm gonna add my fire extinguisher and some roll cage bags and some interior stuff to really make it feel like mine so um i might pull that radio too and see if i can wire up a sub to it as well or some speakers i might i gotta tear that center console apart as well and see if i can add a speaker in there but um yeah tonight's just one of those nights where we're just working in the garage got a new jeep might as well show you guys um put the winch on took off the trail cages on there now i gotta tear apart the gauge cluster and see if i can get the odometer to show its reading the odometer will not show its actual mileage right now um i did buy the jeep without knowing what the mileage was but the title said it has 87 000 miles on it so i'm going to see if it's in that 100 000 100 000 if it's in that hundred thousand mile range and if it's below that even better i got a jeep lj for under a hundred thousand miles that is insane so i'm gonna see if i can pull that and get some of those wires cleaned out and see if i can find one that's burnt maybe or pull the fuses on it or do some electrical stuff here so um i'll take you guys with me as i pull apart that um dash i'll show you guys how i'm gonna pull that apart and then we'll get at it so good practice before you do anything electrical i don't normally do it but i want to treat this jeep a little bit differently than i've been treating my jk i mean i want to do this one right it's it's a rare jeep i want to do it right so i'm going to go ahead here and i'm going to pull just the battery terminal off of it like anytime you're doing anything electrical it's always good to pull that battery terminal off of there just a 10 millimeter on there not not too difficult just take the positive connection off there looks good so now taking the dash apart is super easy though from what from what i've seen at least it's it's relatively easy what you're going to do is you're going to grab a flathead screwdriver and then you're going to come inside the jeep here and then there's this channel on top that runs the whole length you're gonna pop that out with a screwdriver i'll do it after i'm done oh that might that's easier than i thought it was so this whole thing is gonna come out just a couple pressure clips in there and then there's screws in underneath your steering wheel here one and two and then i believe there's some up on your gauge cluster as well and that whole gauge cluster is going to come out so i'm going to spray it down clean it see if anything burnt then i'll put it back in let me get this top part popped out though for you guys and then i'll show you what's next all right guys so i just went ahead and i pulled the whole top piece it was super easy just apply pressure and right here right here and right here and it should pop out evenly without cracking so now i'm going to go ahead i'm going to pull this screw there and then there's one on the other side as well i'm going to pull that out and see if this drops out and then this gauge cluster might have some in there pull the connections and clean it but i'll let you guys know so just like i thought you pull this screw here that screw there this whole bottom plate here drops out and then you have a screw here and a screw on the other side as well so i'm gonna go ahead and pull this gauge cluster see if i can clean up the wires and get that odometer to work um i'm gonna pull these quick and then i'll show you guys what the back of this odometer looks like all right guys so i got the cluster out here and what i had to do was there was a bracket that was up here it bolted in here here and at the end you got to take all three screws out which is kind of difficult with the windshield but if you get a stubby screwdriver it fits in there perfectly and then on the cluster itself there was six screws there's one two three and there's three on the other side as well so there's six and there's these two connections here they have little tabs on them you push them in and pull them out so it is relatively easy to pull the the cluster on this jeep i know in my jk it's like super hard to get anything done on this on that jeep but this one's pretty easy so i'm liking it so far i'm gonna clean up these connections and really inspect them and see if i can get that odometer to work all right guys i got the gauge cluster all put back together um it wasn't too hard it's just a couple screws on the bottom paint pots out screws on top it's not difficult at all it didn't end up fixing my problem though i still don't have anything on the odometer so i guess i'll have to try a brand new cluster or see if i can search through the fuse box and see what i can find but that's really about it for tonight um so like i said i got a 2005 jeep wrangler lj or tj unlimited whatever you want to call it uh it is the longer wheelbase i got a good deal on it the last mileage that was shown on it was 87 000 so if i got it below 100 000 that's that's a steal guys um it's got the 4-0 in it which you if you guys are jeep guys you already know the 4-0 is a beautiful engine which then everybody got rid of it went to that 3 8 they had in the jk that's what i got in my jk now but yeah so i'm just going to make a parts list here move all my stuff into the back all my toe stuff and recovery stuff and put the fire extinguisher up and all that but i like to have these talks at the end of the video with you guys what are my plans for this jeep what are my plans for the other jeep um the plans for the other jeep as of now are to sell it um i really have no need for it now that i have this i would like to keep it it's not going to cost me much to keep it so if it doesn't sell it it doesn't sell it's whatever i'm i got plans for that one i want to do axle swaps and all sorts of stuff on that one give me something to do so i might keep it but we'll see but what are my plans for this one so right away i'm going to go ahead and order some rock grills for this side i don't know what rock rolls to go with yet but i'm over some rock wheels to the side and i'm gonna go ahead and order some flat fenders for the front up here i just was never really a fan of the tj fenders so i'm gonna go ahead and order flat fenders and you guys already know i have to run flat fenders and everything uh the wench is installed already which we did tonight and then i'm gonna go ahead after that and i'm gonna order headlights brand new headlights and then i might look into taillights and see what they got it's just gonna be little stuff it's gonna be like stereo stuff speakers i'm gonna get that interior really built up first because as you guys know my jk that was the last thing for me to do was the interior and i really wish i would have done that first you're in the interior the most you might as well make it as comfortable as you can so i'm gonna go ahead and clean up the interior a little bit run some speakers and run a new head unit and all sorts of stuff and as far as the outside goes and run fenders and rock grills like i just said i'm gonna keep the engine stock i don't want to mess with this engine at all i really don't want to mess with the jeep at all to be honest with you i like the classic look of the tj and i like the rareness of the lj so i'm going to keep it as stock as i can i believe that it has a three inch lift on it i'm i'm not sure that's just by going off measuring front coil springs so if you guys have any way to tell me what kind of lift is on here or if you have any ideas on how i can figure it out please let me know i'm gonna wait for the tires to go bald before i do new tires i'm probably on a 33 by 12 and a half along with new rims on there as well um i'm gonna keep the bumper until i get fenders i might i do like stubby bumpers as you know on my jk so i might run a stubby bumper on here but i gotta see how it all looks when i get flat fenders um i think that's a that's really about it i do want to find a dana 44 for the front i know that these had them out of the rubicons so i do want to find one for the front and later down the road i would like to do gears and lockers as well that's been a big thing that i need to do in the jk but i just haven't done it yet because i've been back and forth about selling it so there's really no point if i'm gonna sell it but i plan on keeping this thing for a long time to come so i might as well build it right build it right the first time um i'm gonna do a lift on it maybe i'll wait till my suspension goes out and all that but right now it's a great beach cruiser where i'm living there isn't much trails so it's a it's a good beach crew it's a great beach cruiser um that's what i'm gonna treat it as i'm gonna do some rust prevention stuff underneath the frame i know eastwood makes a uh paint that coats the inside of the frame so i'm gonna do that as well but for now it's pretty much gonna be just little stuff here and there until i find the front axle and then from the front axle i'll build up but if you guys know of anybody or any companies out there that want to sponsor this build or want to help me with this build you can go ahead and hit me up on instagram just dm me or comment on this video whatever you guys want to do so let me know i'm looking for sponsors for the build i'd love to work with you and build this jeep up to be something good along with my jk as well if there's people out there that want to help me build the jk then i'll throw money at it and build the jk so um but from there on like that's pretty much all i got planned for this jeep i just want to keep it keep it low key keep it daily driver and see where it goes from there so all right guys thanks for hanging out in the garage with me tonight thanks for watching put the wench on and fixing the gauge cluster which i gage cluster which i didn't get fixed uh i'm gonna go ahead here and finish up some stuff on the interior and whatnot but always remember you're not living unless you're living lost have a good one i'll talk to you guys soon
