I Broke it Again! This guy thinks he can teach me to weld in one morning!

What happens here

The first welding task involves attaching horizontal galvanized pipes to vertical fence posts to create brace posts. The presenter uses the ESAB 150G EDW welder/generator, set to 65-70 amps, with 3/32 inch 6011 rods, specifically designed for galvanized material. He demonstrates tack welding the horizontal pipe in three spots (top, bottom, and side) to the vertical post. He emphasizes the importance of proper technique, such as keeping the stick close to the joint and slightly weaving to fill the gap. A respirator (Lincoln Electric XLR P100) and welding jacket (Weldco) are worn for safety.

Goal: Secure fence braces by welding horizontal galvanized pipes to vertical posts.

Tools and materials

  • 3/32 inch 6011 Welding Rods — Welding galvanized steel
  • Chipping Hammer — Removing slag from welds
  • Choke — Starting the generator
  • ESAB 150G EDW Welder/Generator ESAB — Powering welding operations for the fence braces
  • Fuel Valve — Controlling fuel flow to the generator
  • Galvanized Fence Posts — Main vertical support for the fence
  • Galvanized Pipe — Horizontal braces for the fence posts
  • Respirator Lincoln Electric — Protecting respiratory system from toxic zinc fumes when welding galvanized metal (Lincoln Electric XLR P100 shown)
  • Welding Gloves Tweco — Protecting hands from heat and sparks (Tweco and WeldOps brands shown)
  • Welding Helmet Eastwood — Protecting eyes from intense light and sparks during welding (Eastwood LG700 auto-darkening helmet shown)
