This project provides a step-by-step guide on how to create a highly effective 'Help Wanted' ad that not only attracts candidates but also filters them for attention to detail and suitability. The method involves crafting a verbose job description, strategically highlighting both the challenging and beneficial aspects of the role, and embedding a specific keyword in the 'fine print' to identify the most diligent applicants. This approach, inspired by Mike Michalowicz, aims to significantly improve the quality of applications and streamline the hiring process for businesses, particularly in industries like landscaping.

Mike Mallowitz taught me a trick on how to word a help wanted ad that is going to immensely increase your results. I used this trick for the first time just the other day and I had gotten more responses from this one help wanted ad that I posted for free on Craigslist than I have for paid advertising in newspapers for paid advertising on Craigslist. I'm going to walk you through this so you can use it in your own company. It's phenomenal. And here's the formula. The first thing you do is you make your ad very wordy, just excessively wordy. You put into the description what the job is. And then you start out with all the bad things about the job. Like if you're in landscaping, long summer days, it sometimes can be hot. You're going to get bugs. You're going to get bitten up. There might be snakes. gonna have to uh man up and uh work hard, get rich slow like your dad did. Um that sort of thing. So, you start out with the negative things and then you go into the positive things. You go into all the benefits. You're going to get healthy. You're going to get a tan. Um you have the the opportunity for growth and advancement. And one of the things that I want to point out that I did that also is a a real easy thing to do is add 401k. It's so easy and cheap. Check it out with your accountant or with whoever can provide you with it, but that just makes you look like an official company. Very few people in our industry will ever opt to have you provide 401k. But when they see it in the ad, wow, it really makes a difference. So, don't be afraid to to plug the the benefits. So, just reiterate, the first thing you do is you make your ad real wordy, then you plug all the bad things about the job, then you plug all the good things in that order, okay? And then you have like a fine detailed disclosure statement on the bottom of your ad. And what that says is in somewhere in there in the subject line, you make them put in a keyword. In mine, it's genetic rocks. The name of my company is genetic, geek, and the word rocks in the subject line. If they don't put that in the subject line, you automatically discount their application. And the reason you do that is because you are probably looking for detail oriented people. If you're in landscaping, you want someone that's going to make sure everything is done right. I don't care what trade you're in. You're not going to want somebody that's just going to blow over everything and just try to be done with it. You want somebody that's going to pay attention to the fine details. You put make you put that keyword in the fine details and tell them that they have to put that in the subject line. You will be surprised at how many people miss that. and my in my free app that I put on Craigslist, I had nine or 10 applicants within the first day. Only two had the keyword that I needed. So, what does that mean? That means I had I didn't didn't have to deal with the other eight people. I had two applicants that actually paid attention to everything and followed the steps that I wanted. and I had some pretty great applicants, but I also know that those people that didn't put their their subject line in probably wouldn't do my job the way I wanted them to. So, I've got two out of 10 applicants that now I can follow through on. Do you see how much time that could possibly save you?
