How To Water Your Newly Planted Shrubs
What happens here
For newly installed plants, the first 6-8 weeks are a critical establishment period. During this time, the roots are becoming familiar with the surrounding soil. Depending on weather (e.g., 70-80°F days), plants may need to be checked and watered every other day, or 2-3 times a week. After this period, you can gradually decrease watering frequency, and plants should appear healthier with less wilting. If there is a rain event, measure the rainfall with a rain gauge. If it's 1 inch or more, you can likely skip watering for 2-3 days. Automated irrigation systems should also be adjusted based on actual weather conditions and plant needs, not just a fixed schedule like 'Monday, Wednesday, Friday'.
Goal: Optimize watering frequency and volume based on plant age and environmental conditions.
