How to Set Up Mob Grazing Paddocks for the First time on your Farm or Homestead
What happens here
The goal of mob grazing is to move cattle every 12 hours (or at least once a day if vacationing). This encourages them to consume only the sweet, nutritious tops of the grass, similar to 'candy'. Over successive grazing cycles, they will gradually consume the less desirable undergrowth. This strategy allows for a 45-day recovery period for the grass, promoting soil health and reducing parasite load. It's about 'grass recovery' and leaving enough 'solar panel' (foliage) on the plants to facilitate quick regrowth. The size of the paddocks should be adjusted based on the density of the grass; sparser areas may require slightly larger paddocks to provide enough feed for the grazing period.
Goal: Maximize grass recovery and animal health through managed grazing cycles.
