When power washing the fence, focus on one picket at a time. Move the rotating nozzle slowly and steadily up and down the length of each picket, following the natural grain of the wood. This technique ensures thorough stripping of old wood and mildew. It is crucial to avoid moving the power washer crossways or against the grain, as this can create permanent, noticeable marks on the fence that will be visible even after staining. A minimum of 3,000 PSI is required to effectively strip the fence.
