How to Plant a yard and grass seed like a pro - Grow a new lawn, overseeding, yard & sod care tips

What happens here

The first rule for successful lawn seeding is proper soil preparation. If the subsoil is hard, like concrete, the new lawn won't thrive. Ideally, loosen the top 4 inches of soil. This doesn't mean simply adding 4 inches of black dirt; a perfect lawn soil composition is 1/3 black dirt, 1/3 sand, and 1/3 compost. Once the subsoil is prepared and mixed to this ideal composition, you can proceed to lay down the seed. A power rake or rototiller can be used to loosen hard soil, as demonstrated in the video.

Goal: Create optimal soil conditions for grass seed germination and growth
