How to Paint House Exterior

What happens here

After cleaning, meticulously inspect the entire house exterior for imperfections. Apply paintable caulk, such as 'Dap Alex Fast Dry' in white, to fill any protruding nail heads, existing caulk that has cracked due to weather conditions, and butt joints (e.g., where a trim piece meets siding). Wipe off any excess caulk for a smooth finish. Pay special attention to lower sections of the house where sprinklers might have caused wear, or to areas with existing damage. If some siding sections are severely damaged, they may need to be replaced. Additionally, patch any holes left from previous installations like Christmas decorations or water hose stations using caulk or an appropriate spackle for siding.

Goal: Repair all exterior imperfections.

pressure wash it. Number two, when everything is done, we're gonna caulk. The caulk that I use is a paintable. It's the one from Dap. It's white. It's paintable after like 20 minutes, so really quick. What we're doing is looking for any of the nail heads that are sticking out. So we see one there and they're just going all the way down. So we're gonna put a dab on and just wipe it off. Not only nail heads, but we're also looking for pre-existing caulk that has cracked over the years with changing weather conditions. We're gonna give a lot of attention to areas that will find a bud joint, kind of like a trim piece sitting on a siding. The more of these seams you find and fill them in with caulk, the better everything is gonna look. 100% of this job is gonna depend on the prep work with this caulk. So take your time and really find anything that needs repairing and patching. Couple other parts also to notice is some of the lower sections have the sprinklers hitting them, so they're crusting away after we sanded them down. Some of the parts will need to be replaced, so buy a brand new sheet of siding, put it on there and secure it as appropriate. Also, you'll see holes that are from previous Christmas decorations or previous water hose stations that were set up. Make sure you patch them all up with either caulk or spackle or anything that's appropriate for the siding. Be on the lookout for pre-existing chipping
