How to Paint Chalky Siding! The Secret to Get Great Paint Aherence!

this paint life tv i'm chrissy idaho painter in this video i'm going to be talking about aluminum and vinyl siding that has chalky surfaces and how do you paint a surface that is chalky or has a chalky residue on it so if you want to know how you deal with this stay tuned for this video [Applause] [Music] all right so i've got a building right here in this building is a metal sided building that was extremely chalky i power washed it and you know there are times situations where you can't get a metal building a vinyl siding or like um concrete siding and you know there are times there are circumstances you simply can't just scrub with chemicals or scrub an entire building and that's one of the beauties of emulsifone emulsabond was designed to add to paint to make paint adhere to a chalky surface so now you can be confident that you're painting over a chalky surface and your paint's going to stick now there's a couple things i always use a high quality paint when i'm going to be painting on something that could possibly be chalky we'll be using benjamin moore aurora out here because the adhesion properties are excellent on this paint it's going to stick to this surface i'm going to be confident but just because of the chunkiness i'm going to add flood emulsifone on there flood emulsifone was designed to uh to help paint stick to chalky surfaces it also says on here it's um this is metal siding it says you can use it for exterior wood masonry aluminum you can also use it for t-111 plywood hardboard siding or cement siding so you can use it on quite a few different surfaces and give you the confidence that your paint is going to stick to a chalky surface and once again this building it's got high sides it was just extremely impractical to try to scrub this entire building i would have been out here for a week scrubbing the building but i can add a multiband to the paint i've used i started using emulsifying somewhere around 20 years ago to paint metal sided buildings that are extremely chalky it's very common to see that so flutter multibond it's a water-based latex product you add 32 ounces which is a quart you add one quart per gallon of paint very simple you just dump it in your paint stir it up really good and you're good to spray you don't have to it doesn't require you back rolling or back brushing or anything else we're going to just spray this stuff on and we're going to get a good adhesion uh to this chalky surface so it's flat emotional almost on it says right on the front promotes exterior surface adhesion and it also improves penetration of your so we sprayed our uh siding right here with our aurora paint from benjamin moore with the emulsifone in it it was heavily chalk siding and i think i sprayed probably about two hours ago just gonna test how well the emulsifone is working if it is working it's gonna put some tape on there and we'll see if it peels off the paint and it doesn't peel off the paint so that's a good sign that our paint and emulsifone are working and doing their job so now if i had this peeling off the paint that would be a big problem big concern of mine but that's one of the benefits of emulsifon is putting and putting it in your paint to help it your paint bond to a chalky surface all right there you have it flood multibond great product for painting over chalky surface if you've used it let us know your thoughts about the product below down below if you've got any questions for me about painting uh vinyl or not vinyl but metal siding has chalky surfaces or if you just got any questions in general leave them in the comments section below please hit the subscribe button hit the notification bell simple way to help support our channel making these free videos for you and we always appreciate a thumbs up if you've watched our videos and enjoy them we'll see you on our next video [Music]
