How To Paint A Pool. Painting Pools With Chlorinated Rubber Pool Paint.

What happens here

Begin the painting process by performing 'cut-ins' along the top edge of the pool where it meets the deck. Use a paint brush for precise application in these areas. For the steps, use a separate 2-gallon bucket of 'Ocean Blue' paint and a small 4-inch roller or brush to paint them a different, contrasting color. The presenter advises working from top to bottom, doing the cut-ins, then painting the steps.

Goal: Apply the first coat of paint to the edges, steps, and features before rolling the larger surfaces.

Tools and materials

  • 2-Gallon Paint Bucket — Holding smaller quantities of paint, especially for detail work or different colors
  • 4-inch Roller Nap — Applying paint to smaller surfaces like steps (if not using a brush)
  • Paint Brushes — Applying paint to edges, corners, and detail areas
  • Insul-X Swimming Pool Paint — Painting the pool steps (contrasting color)

and get it all cleaned, ready to paint. Okay, I'm going to begin this painting process right now of the pool. Going to be using my chlorinated rubber to paint with. And this is a a solventbased product. It's uh based with xylene and stuff, but I'm not going to attempt to try to clean up the the rollers or the brushes. So, I'm just going to be using cheap throwaway brushes. I'm just using old exterior brushes that we have in our vans that we typically use as duster brushes. So, I'll just be using those and just chuck them. I'm going to be using some old 4-in naps and some old or 9-in roller naps with 38 in 9-in rollers and 4in rollers. 3/8 inch nap. And so, going to begin this rolling process. My buckets got a um two gallon bucket right here. I'm also going to be rolling out of a five gallallon bucket with my 9-in roller, 4in roller out of my two gallon bucket. So, here we go. So, I'm going to be starting along here. I'm going be working from top to bottom. I'm going to do my top cutins right along the edge of the pool deck and going to work out of their little step there so I can walk along the edge of the pool and do this um about this 2 and 1/2t section along the top of the pool. Gonna work right around this. And then once I get that done, then I'm going to start from the bottom of the pool and work my way out. So, just a quick tip, when you're actually painting with this chlorinated rubber, it is a very thin product and it actually dries extremely fast, but it runs really easy. So, when you're actually brushing it, brush it on just a really thin coat and continue to watch right behind you if it runs. If it runs, you can just brush out those runs really quick. But if you give it like 30 seconds or so and it's warm outside, if you try to go back and and brush those runs out, it's going to be coagulating really fast and it's gonna leave it's gonna get really globby and leave really heavy brush strokes. So just a nice thin coat is all you need. Now I'm going to begin working around these steps cuz my steps are going to be a different color than the rest of the pool. So I'm going to cut in around the steps and continue working in my sidewalls. I'm working
