After removing the contaminated rock, the subgrade was exposed. The next mistake identified was the improper grading of the soil. The soil was too low, allowing water to collect and pool against the house foundation and along the edge of the sidewalk, rather than flowing away. For proper drainage, the dirt needs to be graded higher, sloping away from the foundation and meeting the sidewalk flush so water flows over it.
Goal: Recognize the incorrect subgrade elevation and slope that caused water pooling.
