How to Build Seat walls & Columns for Landscaping, Ultimate DIY Guide for Backyard landscaping ideas

What happens here

With the wall and column blocks stacked to their desired height, the next critical step is core-filling. Using a shovel and a wheelbarrow, transport gravel aggregate and pour it directly into the hollow cavities of both the wall sections and the columns. Ensure the aggregate completely fills all voids around the rebar cages in the columns and throughout the wall sections. This aggregate acts as a binding agent, interlocking the entire system—blocks and internal framework—into a solid, durable structure. Continue filling until the aggregate is level with the top course of blocks, ready for capping.

Goal: Increase the strength and stability of the wall and column structures

Tools and materials

  • Gravel Aggregate — Core-filling the hollow blocks to interlock the system and add mass and strength
  • Shovel — Scooping and pouring aggregate into the hollow block cores
  • Wheelbarrow — Transporting the gravel aggregate to the construction site
