How To Avoid Weeds In Pavers

What happens here

On top of the fully compacted base stone, lay a uniform bedding layer. This layer typically consists of coarse sand or, as preferred in the video, 'limestone chip' (often ¼ inch minus limestone screenings). Spread this material to a consistent depth of about 1 inch. Use a screed board (a long, straight piece of wood or metal) and guide pipes or rails to create a perfectly flat and level surface. This step is critical for the pavers to sit evenly. Ensure the bedding layer maintains the intended slope for drainage.

Goal: Create a perfectly level and smooth surface for paver installation

Tools and materials

  • Guide Pipes/Rails — Providing a consistent height reference for the screed board
  • Level — Checking the slope and level of the screeded surface
  • Screed Board — Leveling the bedding layer
