How is this for some pizazz on a walkway?!
What happens here
Begin by preparing the base for the pavers and slabs. This involves spreading a uniform layer of crushed stone or gravel over the sub-base, which should already be compacted and graded for drainage. Next, lay out screed bars (metal pipes or straight lengths of wood) parallel to each other at the desired height and slope. Use a long, straight edge, often called a screed board, to pull across these bars, leveling and smoothing the bedding layer to create a perfectly even surface for the subsequent pavers and slabs.
Goal: Create a level and compacted bedding layer for pavers and slabs
Tools and materials
- Rake — Spreading the crushed stone or gravel evenly
- Screed Bars — Guiding the screed board to ensure a consistent height and slope for the bedding layer
- Straight Edge — Leveling and smoothing the crushed stone or gravel bedding layer
- Crushed Stone / Gravel Local Quarry — Creating a stable and drainable bedding layer for pavers and slabs
