How is this for some pizazz on a walkway?!

What happens here

Proceed to install the large format patio slabs. These typically require careful handling due to their weight and size. Place each slab onto the prepared bedding layer, ensuring it is level and properly aligned with the adjacent pavers and other slabs. Use a rubber mallet to gently tap the slabs into place, seating them firmly and ensuring good contact with the base. If necessary, use a paver saw (visible in the background) to cut slabs to fit edges or irregular shapes. After all slabs are laid, sweep polymeric sand into the joints between the slabs and pavers. This sand hardens when activated by water, locking the pavers in place and inhibiting weed growth and insect infestation.

Goal: Install large patio slabs and stabilize joints with polymeric sand

Tools and materials

  • Paver Saw — Cutting pavers and slabs to fit edges, curves, or obstacles
  • Rubber Mallet — Gently tapping large slabs into place for proper seating and leveling
  • Stiff Bristle Broom — Sweeping polymeric sand into the joints between pavers and slabs
  • Large Patio Slabs — Creating the main patio surface
  • Polymeric Sand — Filling joints between pavers and slabs to lock them in place and prevent weeds
