What happens here

This video demonstrates the installation of a culvert pipe using heavy equipment to facilitate water flow and create a stable access path, likely for a future driveway or fence line. The process involves clearing dense brush and rocky terrain using a forestry mulcher, then positioning and covering a large culvert pipe within a gully to establish drainage and an traversable surface.

today on the Sony Ridge Farm Channel we're making trails with a vulture baby that won't look like that in about 10 minutes of this video hey guys welcome back to the Stoney Ridge Farm I'm Josh this is the Stoney Ridge Farm Channel and today is day two of Forestry mulching for a huge fencing project that we have going on right back in here so we are up here by my upper Pond area this is a catfish Pond and you guys may have seen the video where we restored this Pond I built this I guess probably six I don't know four years ago something like that and we experience a huge leak in the pond dam well the product that we use to fix the leak is working just fine about two months ago we came up here and took a huge amount of dirt we dropped a pipe down in this Gully and we covered the pipe up because we're getting ready to start building more fence here on the farm we've got somewhere in the neighborhood of 35 more acres to fence in we got about 4 200 feet of uh woven wire fencing right here from Farm vent Solutions we're going to be hooking up to there'll be a gate right here we'll hook it this corner and we're going to shoot right up and over that Hill but we can't do it until we got it cleared out and we're using a forestry Mulcher to clear about a 30-foot swath so we can drive on the outside of our fence lines and keep trees off the fence and we're clearing land on this side of the farm and we've got a huge Brushy area on the other side of the farm which is almost a mile away [Music] times like this [Music] folks today's video is brought to you by high C boots they sent Miss Tony Ridge three pairs of boots and me two pairs of boots and some waders so I can get in the pond and do some work High seed boots there'll be a link down in the video description a big shout out to high C for helping support rural content here on social media it's something that's very important that we get Country Life to the mainstream guys and companies like high C boots are helping to bring that to you big shout out there's a link down the video description to high sea boots whether you're going out on the town with your lady friend or they're getting in a mud hole with your lady friend they're in good boots let's get busy come on they work and the dogs love them free why her so the problem is we got to connect to that fence corner right there and we can't get fencing through this is the Honda Pioneer 1006 loaded down with all kinds of cool goodies this is what we have this Brushy area will be absolutely mopped up clean these ditches and holes will be filled in with the extra dirt that I have left over over here we're just going to kind of walk up in here you guys can see it's basically a Thicket okay and I'm getting into Briars so this is just the thicket up through here and the property line is marked with these flags right here so we got flags all the way up through right just about 10 feet off the property line and this is what we're clearing now the forestry head that we're using today is called a loftness forestry head it's a high flow forestry head the largest one they make we just met with those Folks at the national farm machinery show so we have enough knowledge to be dangerous what we're using today our carbide tipped blades we'll be changing those carbide tip blades over to the planer type blades for the bottom line work but the reason we're using carbide tip is because of this and I can hear him hitting rocks over there right now it's so bad so we're going to go right through here this is a really rocky area the most rocky area on the farm and you can see as we mulch down there's a deer rub as we mulch down we might touch a few rocks not a lot of big trees this is all replanted loblolly pine second generation loblolly pine you can see the stumps from where we cut timber way back when I never planned on fencing this until I got an idea for some Silva pasture back in here so we can run our cows in the forest it's going to be really cool let's go check out the trail so far we're gonna ride up it I've got a camera mounted on the front of the Honda here we'll see what we got going weather looks a little bit cloudy looks like we might get a little bit of rain today which won't hurt us in the mulching world but uh it won't be the best anyway we're gonna go out here and hippity hop up the bunny trail this is a road that we carved through here so I could access this field all these trees again are planted Pines this was part of a 60 acre try we have two tracks of land one 90 acre track one 60 acre track and all of this was an overgrown brush this is all old tobacco land you can see my fencing material sitting there and this is what we're clearing through to build fence so we're gonna head right on up in here oh this is a nice wide swath but you really have to be careful in here these little stobs that are sticking up we'll puncture a tie it really quickly we're gonna have to come back through here with the skid loader and fix this up but he's done a fantastic job and this is really really Rocky land all right so our corner post will be right here I have it all marked up for him so we'll rotate around here and you can see where he's gotten I'm gonna have to bring my machine let's put her in park here I'm about to bring my machine up and get some of these rocks out of the way with the tooth bucket here's one of the big old rocks right here so we'll be driving Post in about every 25 feet through here and some of this is just too Rocky for him to mulch he'll get back and get a few of these but this stuff right here I'll get with a chainsaw and bring the wood chipper up here and then we'll rake back some of these rocks the fence will go right straight through there and he is making awesome progress this is only about an hour and 10 minutes so far so at the end of the video once we finish this I'll fly through here with the Drone probably tomorrow and we're going to go down into some bottom land where we're clearing out a bunch of brush I mean this stuff is super thick guys super super thick he's cutting trees you know that are about big around as your arm or your wrist and some trees that are about 10 inches around so it's a quite the chore and this is a really Rocky land on this side and no rocks at all on the other side of the farm it's really odd topography get ready the show's about to start teeth hit those rocks and this is what the carbide teeth look like guys doesn't even hurt them at all they're doing awesome this is The Lochness head that we're using this is the big head the biggest one you can get I do believe called the battle ax check out this Drone footage you can see basically you can see the entire farm from up here on this Hillside this is the highest point on the farm and again originally we didn't want to fence in this brush pile that we're pulling up on but what we're going to do initially is we're going to put some goats in here we're going to let the goats go down and trim up for us underneath these pine trees and this will give the cows somewhere to graze and somewhere to Lounge which is going to be super cool you can see we cut timber on this property now I'm going to say it's been seven years ago something like that right when we first bought it we took that money and we put it back into the land clearing the land smoothing it out and we'll have the cows on this pasture hopefully all summer long this summer now you can see him kind of pushing his way through just mowing down trees we're trying to minimize contact with these planted pine trees if we possibly can but we want to clear out a swath wide enough to build our fence through here so that tree limbs aren't falling on the fence constantly fence line maintenance is something that's really important and we want to be able to drive around the entire outside perimeter of our fence [Music] yesterday we got all the edge of this field done right here the next section we're doing is a pathway for the fence line to go all the way through down to our Creek bottoms over here it's going to be real hard for me to film in the woods we'll show you what he's doing he's just making a 30 to 40 foot swath right through here all this will be gone in just a little bit and you're getting ready to see a little bit of a show the root structure on that tree was in really bad shape this is the boss right yes I've come to Superbike in progress what do you think it's it's amazing y'all have made some good progress opening on up you haven't even seen half of it so we'll go take her on a little tour here in a minute but miss Stoney Ridge approved so far so good good foreign [Music] foreign [Music] holy cow Dave um are you getting your teeth rattled in there first question uh the ground's not too bad down here it's not nearly like it was uh on the Rockies on the hill man it's really Rocky up there well guys as you can tell if you look back here man what a night and day difference we'll get you a little bit of before footage this was a big time Thicket right here we've still got a tiny bit more to do but I think this is the point where we let you guys go but I wanted to ask Dave a little bit about the maintenance of this machine so we're going to put you on the spotlight here and again guys this is Dave Mann's tractor and fence LLC you build uh livestock fence you also build uh tell me tell us about what you build so we do all residential livestock fence we do forced remulching down in Southeast Georgia we're pretty much like the uh the only specialty livestock fencing company around and we're definitely the only one driving fence posts perfect we will put a link you have website and everything we'll put a link to his website down there if you're down in that area you want to get this done tell me about the loftiness head and and what we've experienced so we changed a few teeth out so we could cut a little faster down here we had the original teeth were the carbide teeth and then the next set of teeth we you put on were the planer teeth yeah and the planer teeth cut a little bit faster and this kind of stuff yeah so the first parts that we did right it was all big rocks and you know you guys saw that the big boulders that were up there we were crawling around on and those teeth are going to be resistant to breaking on on those big rocks and you know like Josh was saying you could hear it all the way through the valley whenever you hit one it sounds like yeah yeah so down here where we didn't really have any rocks and we had some different kinds of trees as well as a lot of vines and stuff we switched the center teeth to planar teeth so we could get a little finer grind and you get a lot more speed getting through a lot of this stuff like you guys see this big area we were what here for three hours four hours maybe total now what do you have show me here so you've got a is this a lexan door open that sucker up let's see how thick that thing is yeah so that's a three-quarter inch thick polycarbonate door gotcha right um inside the cab this is a brand new machine this is like 50 hours on it something like that when you got here yeah yeah I think we're 60 something now gotcha wow uh brand new Bobcat machine super awesome we learned something about Bobcat flow uh tell them about Bobcat flow so you got a couple connectors over here fire extinguisher very important a couple connectors over here the high flow coming out of a bobcat is different than other machines yeah it's backwards so your pressure port here is going to be on the bottom where your female coupler would normally be okay on most other machines it's going to be backwards your pressure port is going to be on your male coupler high pressure on the female coupler and again guys this is a Bobcats t770 it is how many horsepower 92 horsepower 36.6 gallons per minute in high flow um so it's a good all-around machine you know we chose this one because we actually have a remote control that we can operate it from for driving post driving posts awesome to make it a one-man show up top loftiness cool flow this is a necessity when you're running a forestry mulcher like this because it just keeps your hydraulic system cooler is that right absolutely so a couple things we do to keep the machine cool uh one we add this hydraulic cooler up to the top it's got two big fans in there gotcha and the other thing is we use these special fittings here they're called stoochy fittings okay um and basically they screw on instead of your normal hydraulic fittings like you'd have on your tractor or you got on on your skid steer yeah and basically they reduce you know any friction inside of there so that you get more flow or better flow and you you don't build up heat so where if it were restricted right here it could build up heat and you wouldn't get quite as much flow thus the machine wouldn't cut quite you get you still get the same flow rate but you get that added friction in there right instead of the friction doing the work for you right so even oil causes friction now you've got a meter down here that you watch all the time this is how many psi that the pump is pushing to this machine what do we want that at so operating normally just hanging out in the air once you're up to temperature you're going to see 900 to 1100 pounds gotcha that's kind of where I I've seen it and we use that to see what the the rotor is doing right because you can't see any part of this rotor from inside the machine so this is like an RPM gauge for the rotor pretty much kind of yeah so as it as the rotor bogs down that pressure is going to go up right because there's more resistance to your hydraulic flow in your system and that that kind of tells you you know how you need to back out or or what's going on it's nice as far as at the front half of this machine cool so well we're done we're wrapping it up for the day guys thank you again so much Dave uh I just can't say I appreciate your service also guys thank Dave for his service here in the Navy and uh we've got a tiny bit more to do on the other side of the creek and then we're gonna start building fence so thanks for your help brother yeah I appreciate it we'll see you guys in the next Stony Ridge farmer video thank you so much for joining us I hope you learned something a look at the results man that's awesome absolutely awesome now Dave you ready see you next time on the Stony Ridge take care guys we'll see red [Music] Briars help help me help me Tom Cruise help me I'm in the bars I forgot my hat and we're gonna be doing some mulching
