What happens here

This video provides an expert overview of the complexities and considerations involved in installing Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in a multi-unit residential building. It highlights the process of identifying power sources, integrating with existing electrical panels, and the extensive planning, load calculations, and permitting required before physical installation can begin. The content serves as an important warning against underestimating such projects.

Okay, so we're in the basement of this apartment complex and wanted to explain to you what we're going to do to run EV charging here. So, this sectional cabinet here is the incoming power from the outside transformer. It's already stepped down to 12083phase from the outside transformer. Now, if you pan over here, you can see all these meter pans. Now, you're able to have all these meter pans with their individual breaker. You can see they're are 90 amp breakers. They're all derated. The reason why you can do that is because of this right here. This says main disconnect. Let's open this up. Now, right away, I can tell this is not a union job. I can tell right away that this is not a union job. Why? That concerns me because look at this cover here. Look how that is not level, not square. There's no way that would should been left like that. Okay. The other clue is, and I'm not trying to pick on you. I'm not picking on you. I'm just making, you know, people call me and say, "Hey, why can't I get more commercial work? What do I need to do?" Now, look, if you look in here, I looked at this. Someone didn't even know how to spell spare. They wrote spear. Okay? Now, I'm not picking on you, but if you are, if English is a second language for you and your team, just make sure you Google how to spell things. It's important that you represent your company. Right. Now, let's look at this and see all this SCU cable that's coming through. Now, you can see there's a home run for every single apartment that's here. And they did a nice job putting this unit strut up to keep everything nice and neat. They did a nice job here. It's just very dusty. It's been done a while ago. And uh this is this is a nice job. This is all seu. I would do it again. I wouldn't have it like this. Now, what we're going to be doing is coming off of this side. So, this 600 amp disconnect is feeding the house. Okay? So this these have a separate meter right here for the house. So everything from this meter is coming through this CT cabinet and is going into this panel. So we've got the elevator and this is where we're going to come and get our EV charging power from. Now, as far as load calculation, we ended up calling the utility company and asking them for their peak demand over the past 12 months because it's impossible to get a true load calculation from all these individual meters. Now, I'm going to say this. You don't need to be involved EV charging on a job like this. If you get a call from a place like this, like from the say number 306, who wants an EV charger, don't put a lot of stock into it, okay? It's been over a year before we've got the approval and the permits and a lot of leg work to do this. So, this is not something that you want to just jump into. Don't get excited when you get these type of calls. Takes a long time before you see any money. Okay, let's go to work.
