Order sod to arrive just before you're ready to lay it to prevent it from drying out. Begin laying sod rolls tightly against each other, staggering the seams like bricks. Use a utility knife or garden knife to cut sod pieces to fit irregular shapes or pathways. After all sod is laid, use a lawn roller to press the sod firmly against the prepared soil, ensuring good root-to-soil contact. Immediately and thoroughly water the entire new lawn.
