(11,011 characters)[Music] all right guys I'm here with Trevor from Makita how are you Trevor good Dan all right so he is the actual product rep and expert on this and I just have one simple straightforward question why did you guys opt for a 40 volt system well we needed to bridge the gap on some of the the tool usage that was out on the marketplace right now our 18vt stuff is phenomenal we're not getting rid of it but there's certain tools that needed more power and we had to come up with this 40 volt battery platform really to support these higher power higher draw type tools like the 14-in concrete saw like some of the bigger rotary Hammers and chipping hammers um but in doing so with that new battery platform we didn't want something that was Standalone just for those tools so we had to kind of broaden the whole offering to impact drivers to reip saws to Circular saws to really support the line for people that got into the 40 volt platform so if I understand this correctly you needed to create a battery platform that could handle the high demand high energy drop raw tools but you didn't want to put the end user at stake and not give them a flexibility and versatility to be able to run other things so you also created a platform that could operate their handheld tools as well like impact drivers and circular saws and things like that is that right you got it all right well I think the next thing we need to do is just see how well this 40 volt system actually works in some really tough real world conditions sounds good all right let's do it I think the point to this next next is we are going to be putting the Makita gas powered this is their mm4 this is their tried and true for four stroker that we've used now for quite a few years up against the new battery all right try out the battery one let's see how how she operates what's this what's the scoop with it button right here push the button [Applause] okay W this has a brake on it well I don't know if you call it a brake or not but it ramps down really fast and comparison to the gas version let me show you what I [Music] mean all right guys let's check out what Makita has in the range of batteries available right now so this is everything that Makita has in the 40 volt system Trevor these are the four options we have in the 40 volt system right here we have a couple couple of 18vt batteries just for comparative sakes that's our 2.0 amp hour 18vt this is our 5.0 amp hour 18vt we like to show that next to the 2.5 amp 40 volt size is virtually identical and this tool or this battery here is going to be perfect for some of the smaller hand tool type tools in the 40 volt platform from there you jump up into the 4 amp hour a little longer runtime five and then 8 Amp Hour battery here the 8.0 amp power we recommend for the 14-in concrete saw some of the bigger chipping hammers concrete vibrators um higher draw type tools that the guy needs all right good deal so now let's get back to our test and see how these things keep working all right fire it up make the first cut Zach [Music] drops yeah that's pretty nice Cut pretty straight cut for basically otherwise you're fighting rotation and all that other stuff and you're going like this and that and this and that she doesn't do that does she she actually has a smoother cut than the regular chop sauce oh yeah cuz like I said you're not getting that centrifical force or whatever the engines moving spinning this and then the blades moving spinning this trying to counteract each other torsional drift so what Zach is actually talking about is with a regular chopsaw as you throttle it up the saw kind of does this rotation and it feels kind of cool actually but it also makes that ability to go in and get your line defined real clear just a little bit more challenging as you're trying to drop in for your initial cut and this chopsaw had a lot less torsional drift I don't even know if that's the real way to say it but that's the way I say it now one of the things we notice with this Makita battery powered saw right out of the gate is your control with the saw most chop saws that we used fact not most all of the chop saws that we've used give you that that torsional rotation so like you're constantly fighting it it wants to move and groove and do its own thing on its own this battery powered chop sod doesn't give you that feedback it stays more straight and true to the cut but that's just all in hand feel we Zach and I both felt it but you guys may experience something completely different or get your own hand feel in a different totally way you guys but here we are with the Precision cut next up yeah that is pretty thin and pretty precise too pretty precise great great control so we know she's got control but does she have the power let's go do a plunge cut all right let's go for it you got the gaser hooked up she's on the water supply as I hit the wrong button and turn it off little touchy all right this is the Precision test right here let see how precise you can do it these saws have more rotational now the blades you use make a huge difference and your cut performance of course I realize that and I know you guys know that now what we used on the battery powered saw was a dedicated blade that Makita has designed specifically for their battery powered saw just to make it run as a at its after at its absolute most Optimum now this gas powered saw that you see working here is running a brand spanking new chopsaw blade that I just pulled out of the package so both blades were brand new so the performance should not be affected that way so here's the cut off from the gas and here's the cut off from the battery equal yeah I'd say they're about equal actually it feel both the same actually I'm surprised all right plunge cut time uh we got a boulder let's put the let's let's try the battery and see how she does if we can't get her to die out plunge cut test coming up he's going to see if he can't kill it in the there you go you finally killed her but that was that other one just right through that was my whole weight of my body on that thing really I'm going to jump in here because what I've discovered is this has what's called aft or active feedback sensing technology and this is actually designed to preserve your saw so if the saw senses that it's binding up or being overexerted it will stop itself so it doesn't fry itself out all you've got to do is let up on it pull it out hit the button and you're back in business slow her down all right time for gas and I I know you guys know that a rock is much denser and much harder than concrete I know you guys know that but there may be some people new to the channel that aren't familiar with construction and things like that so for those guys not you not you just make sure you realize that for those other guys though please don't destroy them in the comments just cuz they don't know any better [Laughter] please the fact of the matter is a rock is much more dense material than concrete is by far just simply by its very nature how it was formed compressed over millions of years and formed in the Heat and the cold and blah blah blah and concrete is just poured then they put a vibr vibrator in it get the air out of it and boom it cracks a year later all right Zach you put all your weight on the battery powered one now you got to do the same thing with this gas powered one as you go into the stone right all [Music] right [Music] he right all right now the the four stroker does have a brand new blade on it uh in fact the the battery powered one the blade probably it does have more wear than the four stroker cuz it's made three more Cuts so they're both new did you put as much as as you did with the four stroker in it yeah just about yeah but yeah it's pretty good cutting for battery powered I would say I would say that thing is is that that is very impressive I was going to say and for what we've cut we've barely made it dent in the batteries yeah we haven't dented those batteries [Music] yet so for power alone this battery powered chop saw just was very impressive it did everything that the gas powered saw could do with no problem but one of the things we've noticed is that battery tends to die out pretty fast in high torque applications so what we decided to do next is just put this saw up against the block and start making as many slivers as we possibly could until either the saw went out or we gave up so let's find out how this next part [Music] goes [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] and then when our water supply finally ran out we decided that would be a good time to check and see how well our batteries are doing [Music] all right so let's com got one two three four five 6 7 8 nine 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 one X3 all right let's see how we did there you go now you know exactly how many Cuts he can make well I was also pushing it too I wasn't really babying it either 2 we did we we did 21 Cuts here yeah and then we did four or five over on that end over on that end and burying the saw into the stone and all that other stuff and whatnot so yep that's a pretty good run time I'd say on batteries that's not too bad I would definitely say and it comes with four batteries so now as these charge up yeah you can pull another two two set and then you throw those on the charger you go right back to work continuing and then once those are done and they now I'm going to jump in here cuz I've done a little bit more research and according to Makita directly you get the same amount of runtime with four batteries as you would running that chop saw with a plum full tank of fuel 80 minutes okay so those are going to take 80 minutes to charge those back up oh yeah here we go you can actually read it there F charge time 80 minutes all right you guys well I want to say thanks to Trevor for coming on out and helping me understand some of this information now this thing did perform absolutely kept straight up with our gas chain our gas chopsaw every bit of the way yeah yeah and as you guys could see the power and performance is there but the convenience of no gas engines no gas problems no fumes the ability to work inside um the instant start on that thing you know it's really unmatched and and it's the true replacement okay so how many tools will this new 40 volt system fit on so we have 125 plus different tools now in that battery platform and we're launching new tools every single month all right so there you go you guys that's the new 40 volt system by Makita and that is the test on one of the most demanding applications that they have their chopsaw hope you guys enjoyed
