What happens here
After the base is prepared and compacted, spread a uniform 1-inch (2.5 cm) layer of bedding sand over the crushed stone base. Use screed boards and a straightedge to level the sand accurately, creating a perfectly flat surface for the pavers. Begin laying the Unilock Town Hall pavers in the desired herringbone pattern, ensuring tight joints and straight lines by using string lines for alignment. Cut pavers as needed using a masonry saw to fit edges, curves, and around obstacles. Install paver edging along the perimeter of the winding path to lock the pavers in place and prevent them from shifting laterally.
Goal: Construct the new winding paver pathway.
Tools and materials
- Bedding Sand Screed Boards — For leveling bedding sand to a consistent depth
- Hearing Protection — Ear protection when using a masonry saw
- Knee Boards — For comfortable and even weight distribution while laying pavers, preventing damage to the bedding layer
- Masonry Saw — For precisely cutting pavers to fit edges, curves, and irregular shapes
- Paver Edging / Edge Restraints — To stabilize the perimeter of the paver walkway and prevent lateral movement
- Paver Spacers — To maintain consistent joint width between pavers (optional, as some pavers have integrated lugs)
- Rubber Mallet — For gently tapping individual pavers into place to ensure they are level and snug
- Safety Glasses — Eye protection, especially when cutting pavers
- Straightedge — For leveling bedding sand by drawing it across the screed boards
- Bedding Sand — A 1-inch (2.5 cm) layer to set the pavers on
- Unilock Town Hall Pavers Unilock — The main paving material for the walkway
