What happens here
The farmer demonstrates his feeding method. He takes five scoops of organic feed (Reedy Fork Farm brand) into a 5-gallon bucket, which is about half a bucket full. He then adds water to the feed until it's about an inch from the top. He lets the feed sit for approximately 20 minutes to allow the water to soak in. He explains that they typically mix the feed a day or two in advance. This wet feeding method pre-digests the food, provides probiotics (like a vinegar), reduces food waste, helps chickens digest better, minimizes manure output, and promotes faster growth. Each flock of 100 birds consumes about 2,000 pounds of feed before slaughter.
Goal: Prepare feed using a wet method to improve digestion and reduce waste.
