Fixing An Ugly Yard FULL of Weeds.

What happens here

From the operator's perspective inside the Bobcat, the presenter demonstrates the nuanced control of the ABI SR3 attachment. He explains how the center tines can be raised or lowered to either 'cultivate' (dig deeper to loosen soil) or 'grade' (move material). The unique aspect of the SR3 is that it acts like a large power rake, allowing the operator to effectively spread and level material, a task typically done by hand with a rake. He emphasizes that the entire machine rolls on its wheels, allowing the operator to fine-tune the grading and material distribution with precision. The goal is to avoid removing material, instead incorporating everything back into the soil.

Goal: Achieve precise control over scarification and grading depths, and effectively manage existing soil material.

Tools and materials

  • ABI SR3 Command Series Attachment ABI — Adjusting the center tines for cultivation or grading, and using the front/back rakes to move and level material
  • Bobcat S185 Skid Steer Loader Bobcat — Providing the hydraulic controls for the SR3 attachment

[Music] now another thing that i'm going to try not to do is remove anything i'm not going to scrape anything off haul anything away or remove anything i'm going to incorporate everything back into the soil and see how well this can do that as well as provide a finished grate at the same time right along with me and we're going to show you what the sr3 is this one is uh great for prepping seed beds really is what i figure even with a wheeled skid loader let's see i don't want to move that too far i want to move that down that way and get rid of it let's go grab a little bit more stuff we don't want so it's got three edges and it's got a front rake a back rake and then controllable center ties now if you look down at those center tines i can raise them and lower them at will right and that's what i use when i want to cultivate when i want to prep my seed bed if i want to dig into that dirt loosen it up i put them down and as i'm going forward or backward oh boom i didn't want that anyway um did you guys see that i hit my edgers and i actually didn't want it anyway but i wasn't gonna remove it like that [Music] so that was an accident okay so right here i wanna i wanna go a little deeper with my tines the soil is compacted look in front of us so what i'm doing is i'm going to pop them down just enough not too deep [Music] i'm rolling on my wheels so this has got wheels down there on either side of this thing so you can really see it loosening it up now right that's what i'm saying this is kind of more than just for grating it's more like seed bread fed crap it'll prep seed feds and it'll grate but what's throwing what throws a lot of guys off is the fact that it's like grating with a cold right or it's like grating with a toothed bucket not really not really what a skill set most guys are used to [Music] but when you go to rake your lawn like when you go to grade up and you you grab a rake right i mean that's what you use it's a rate when you got to do it by hand when you've got a correct grade you can do a good job with a shovel but when you really want to blend everything you grab a rake and you rake it out that's what this is right out of the gate is a rake you're starting with a rank that throws guys off you're not used to starting with the ring at least that's my two cents [Music] because that's what threw me off as well i was like oh my god how do i move stuff well that front rake works really good at moving what you want it's not gonna load a truck…
