What happens here

After the drain rock has been added, the excess geotextile fabric that was laid up the sides of the trench is folded over the top of the gravel. This completely encases the rock and pipe within the fabric, creating a 'burrito' effect that prevents surrounding soil from mixing with the drainage material. Following this, a layer of topsoil is carefully placed over the folded fabric to create a base for the final landscaping.

Goal: Seal the French drain system and prepare for turf restoration.

Tools and materials

  • Rake — Leveling topsoil
  • Shovel — Spreading topsoil
  • Topsoil — Covering the fabric and providing a base for turf
