With the ladder securely in place, carefully ascend the ladder, maintaining three points of contact at all times (two hands and one foot, or two feet and one hand). Carry a paint bucket filled with exterior paint and a paintbrush up to your working height. Hook the paint bucket to the ladder or hold it securely to free your hands for painting. Position yourself comfortably and safely to reach the section of trim or eaves you intend to paint.
