Fence braces explained...a look at different fencing ideas!
What happens here
Luke describes a steel pipe brace built by Jake Wilson of Wilson Fence. This brace uses a unique wire wrapping technique instead of traditional tensioners. The brace wire is stacked with two strands over two strands in a specific pattern around the brace pin, which Jake believes provides more power. He hard staples only the ends of the brace wire to the brace pin for security, and then uses a separate tool (referred to as 'wraps') to drive down the stacked wires, tightening the brace. This design also lowers the angle of the brace wire, which helps prevent the strainer post from popping out of the ground and reduces the chance of animal entrapment by minimizing criss-crossing wires at the lower end.
Goal: Examine a steel pipe brace using a specialized wire wrapping technique for tension and animal safety.
Tools and materials
- Brace Pin — Anchor point for the brace wire
- Hard Staples — Securing the ends of the brace wire
- Steel Pipe Posts — Upright supports for the fence
- Steel Pipe Struts — Horizontal brace between the posts
- Wire — Bracing wire, stacked and wrapped for tension
- Wraps — Driving down stacked wires to tighten the brace
