Farmer Mows his MANURE? I wish I'd learned this YEARS AGO!

What happens here

Before bringing in heavy machinery, drive an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) through the freshly vacated paddock to ensure no calves were left behind. This is a crucial safety step. While checking, observe the cattle's natural grazing behavior – how they 'cherry-pick' the best forage and move in groups. Also, ensure adequate shade (shade trees are essential) and water (water trough) are available in all paddocks, especially in warmer weather, to minimize heat stress on the animals. Drive the ATV out of the paddock, opening and closing gates as needed.

Goal: Ensure animal safety and optimal grazing conditions before starting mechanical work.

Tools and materials

  • All-Terrain Vehicle — Inspecting the paddock for any left-behind calves and for transportation
  • Electric Fence — Guiding and containing the cattle during relocation
  • Shade Trees Natural — Providing essential shade for cattle during hot weather
  • Water Trough — Supplying fresh water to the cattle
