Testing Brace Strength: Wooden vs. Metal
At 11:00 in
FARM FENCING...WOOD POST AND STEEL POST BRACING COMPARED..WELDS AND MORE!
What happens here
Before the test, the initial flex of the wooden post is measured using a measuring tape and a straight white stick. It shows an initial deflection of approximately 1 1/8 inches. The team makes predictions about which part of the wooden brace will fail first under extreme tension: the diagonal brace wire, the wooden post itself, or if the entire brace will simply lean. The same Protech Evo machine used for driving posts is then used to apply extreme tension to the fence wire attached to both the wooden and metal braces. A white stick is placed next to the wooden post to visualize its deflection.
Goal: Compare the performance and failure points of wooden and metal fence braces under extreme tension.
