Everything you need to know about CAST IRON cookware, seasoning and restoration

What happens here

After each use, clean your cast iron cookware with warm water and a stiff brush (such as the Lodge brand cast iron cleaner shown) – never use soap, as it can strip away the seasoning. After cleaning, dry the pan thoroughly and apply a small, dime-sized dollop of oil, rubbing it into all surfaces with a paper towel. The pan should have a slight sheen but not be greasy. Once oiled, store the pan inside your oven. This storage method, combined with the residual heat from subsequent oven use, continually reinforces the seasoning. By consistently cooking with and properly maintaining your cast iron, it will become fully seasoned within a couple of weeks, developing a naturally non-stick surface ideal for cooking items like scrambled eggs or cornbread.

Goal: Learn how to clean and maintain seasoned cast iron cookware after each use and store it properly to preserve its non-stick properties.
