What happens here
This video demonstrates how to install an angle stop on a PEX water line, specifically for a dishwasher connection, using a male adapter and PEX crimp rings. The process involves turning off the main water supply, preparing the PEX pipe, assembling the angle stop with a male adapter, cutting the PEX, installing the assembled valve, and crimping it into place using a specialized PEX crimping tool. The creator highlights the benefits of this method for future maintenance and easy replacement, especially when working with PEX manifolds.

(11,691 characters)Hey folks that fix a guy here and so I got a call from a friend of mine. He was actually getting a dishwasher installed by Home Depot which is a pretty good deal but they would not install it because he didn't have an angle stop. Alright so he's got pecs, he has a manifold. They will not shut the water off at the manifold. It has to be the shut off valve. It has to be an angle stop which alright so he wanted to know what could be done. I said you know I can hold it tomorrow I can get it hooked up so you can get this thing taken care of. And so that's what I want to show you today. I'm going to talk a little bit about pecs. I'm going to talk a little bit about an angle stop. I'm going to talk a little bit about the manifold. So come along. Let's get to fix it. Alright so let's come in here. I'm going to show you this is the pecs manifold right. So if you scroll down here you find the dishwasher on the hot side. It's going to be a hotline. That's great. The one thing about these which if it doesn't come with a with a wrench like because it actually has a little wrench that goes on here. It's a little plastic tool that allows you to shut these off because this is what you have to shut off is that little diamond shaped kind of knob right. You can see over here you see that knob that somebody tried to use pliers with it or something and now they've got that capped off because that used to be the master bath cold for the toilet right. These things I personally don't like shutting them off right here. You can and it's not a big deal if you have to you know just grab a crescent wrench. Make sure you go flat jog. You don't want to use a pair of pliers on this and shut it off. But for me personally I'm a fan of right here. This is actually the shut off to the house. This is a quarter turn style valve and kind of a little tricky in this whole situation inside this small closet. But shut that off right there. I know that's a positive shut off. These probably will work. I'm just not a fan. So we can come right here and we can test if the hot water is off now and it is both hot and cold they're off right because we actually can't test down here on that dishwasher line until we cut it. And so now we're going to get into the prep before we cut. Okay. So so these bad boys we get into some of this stuff right. How I like to do these style setups like if I'm going to cut into packs especially to be paid any kind of packs if I'm going to put a angle stop in while I'm going to use a male adapter. So let's just get all this stuff out of the packaging real quick and I'm going to show you what I'm doing. Alright. Let's get that up way out of there. Let's just need one of these. Size these things actually come in a sealable pouch man. I don't really use three eight stuff too much either because you don't really find three eights pecs outside of these manifold type setups. So here's what we're looking at. This is actually a three eights by half inch male adapter. Okay. Goes into pecs goes into iron pipe. This right here is a half inch by three eights iron pipe female style angle stop. This is actually a straight stop. It's not an angle stop right because this is straight. If it's angled this is going to be off to the side a little bit. But what we're going to do here is I like to actually put these together first. And then once we cut that pipe, we're going to chop it. We're going to put this crib ring on there real quick. We're going to put this in there and we're going to crimp that just as fast as we can. Simple, easy. Alright. I like to put these together first that way. You don't have to turn this in place. You already got it tightened. You can position it exactly where you want. And then you just crimp this on. That to me is the best scenario. So I look at this style of stuff from replacement standpoint, right? If this valve ever fails, how am I going to replace it? If I just put a pex in on it, all of a sudden I got to cut the pecs again. And every time it just gets a little smaller and smaller. And we don't want to deal with that. This way you can actually just take this, you're able to spin this off, shut the water down, spin it off, spin a new one on. You're good to go. Mel adapter in this scenario is your best friend, right? I think so anyway. This is just my opinion. This is the way I like to do it. So let's grab a little Teflon with the Teflon, right? At least three wraps. This stuff is kind of paper thin. I like to maybe go a little bit more than that. So maybe four or five. You go sloppy Teflon today. It's kind of hard. I'm actually looking at the stuff through the camera. Working through the lens is never really that easy. And I just like to take my fingernail, run my fingernail through this just to get that Teflon working to the threads a little bit. You don't need to do that. But somebody just want to show me that. And I liked it. And it works really well. You know, my stuff, the mega lock. I always use it, man. I like both things. If you guys can hear that weeding weed you're going right now, I'm sorry. You never can control these type of things, right? You always wish for the best scenario. And just doesn't happen. So then you get this on there. You just want to grab a backup wrench, right? You're going to need a backup wrench for this. And just then get that tightened. So now that's good to go. Now we need to do is we're going to fix that in place, right? And I'm going to show you just how simple and easy this is going to be for those guys. Okay. So here's the setup we're going to be putting in today. So this is actually type B pecs, right? So it's the same style of pecs that takes these stainless steel crimp rings that I'm fixing to use. Or it takes these brass or copper crimp washers. All right. Now either one of these, this tool is going to be a little more expensive. This tool is a little less. And honestly, I find the tool for this just so much easier to use. But you run into this stuff. And you have to be able to transition, right? So I bought what I bought a little tool. I'm going to show you this is a little tool. It's by Apollo. And it is, it's just an awesome little crimping tool, right? It's one that I found that works super easy. You can for the most part do it one handed. It's ratcheting. And you can see as this thing starts to crimp down, it gets done. And then there's a little indicator light that shows you that it's done. And then when you're all good and done, you just click that release and you're back in business. Now I can tell you, having used the, the, the plier type crimp to deal with these right here, man, they're so hard. And if you're in a crawl space, I just found this to be way more easier. Now this idea is way easier because I actually have a pecs gun by Milwaukee. And that thing is awesome. I'll end up doing some tool reviews. We'll end up talking much more about this style of stuff. I just want to get my garage cleaned out first. I need a good work area to do more tool reviews. All right. But for this right here, this is what we're using. This is the setup. We're actually just going to cut this somewhere about right here. We'll pop this in place. And they'll be able to hook everything up from there. All right. So let's grab a towel because there's probably going to be a little bit of water. And I like to just make sure that we're set up here. It's not going to be too much because the water is off. So this needs to be a pretty quick process. It usually is, like I said, we're just going to pop this ring on here. We're going to pop this on here. Then we'll get that in position. And we'll do a little thing. I try to find a place in here where the pipe's not nicked up or something, right? You just want it to be able to sit and hold good. It actually holds from the inside. But I don't know, man, I just like to make sure things are good. So I've just determined there's kind of like a little nick right here. So that's where I'm going to cut. And I'll leave this much if we ever have to make another repair here. But because I put this on here, this way really should be easy. And not have to deal with that. Next, we're going to take our tubing cutter, right? I buy one of these rigid cutters, this PC 1250. I buy this because it also cuts inch to half tubular drain pipe, right? So if we just go over here real quick and look at that, this will actually cut that P trap as well, if I needed it to. So I like to just have something in my bag that's multifaceted, right? I want to be able to do a couple things just kind of allows me to carry a little more stuff. So when you use these cutter to cut pecs, you always want to put a little twist, a little turning your cut. That way, it doesn't smush down on the pipe, right? You don't want to give your pipe a flat spot. It'll typically go back to its shape, but it's always nice just give it a little twist. Alright, so let's get in here. Let's see if I can do this. You'll be able to see it. Find my mark, make sure you're straight up and down. And then like I said, just a little twist. Oh, you definitely had a little pressure in that. And not a lot of water though. Good to go. Okay, so that's going to take this crimping, slap that out there for right now. It's going to go ahead and just pop that fitting right on there. And so now that that's good there, that's the one nice thing about pecs too, that even if it was, there's a little bit of water there dripping. It's not that big of a deal. Now when you do this, you want to make sure that you give yourself a little space here between eight to a quarter inch. You want to make sure that you can see some pipe coming off that. So you want to make sure that this fitting is pushed all the way in there. And you want to make sure that you have a little bit of gap right there. So I'll just get this to where you can see the indicator light crimping it in. And bam, it's nice that you can do that with one hand. As soon as you see that blue, you're good to go. And I actually felt it crimping pretty good as I roll it. And you can see right there, we zoom in, that is crimped for sure. And so now those guys are going to be able to hook this up tomorrow. They'll be able to take out that old dishwasher because now we have an angle stop. Okay, so then we're going to go ahead. We're going to come back over here. We're going to turn this water back on. We'll go check for a leak real quick. Got nothing happening there. I'm not going to flow this because there's nothing to flow it to. I don't even have a supply line. This is all you want to done. So it's good to rock and roll. Okay, so that was a quick angle stop install on some pecs, right? Because nobody wants to deal with that manifold. That company wouldn't even touch the manifold. They're like me. I don't want to touch the manifold, right? Just too many things can go wrong there. I just always assume use the big shut off. All right, if you guys are looking for a cool type B pecs tool, consider this, right? This ratcheting style one from Apollo. This thing is awesome, dude. Like it really helps in my opinion. I like it. I will be doing a tour of you on it at some point. If you guys need any of the other tools, right? The cutter, it's so versatile for me doing plumbing. I really like it. I know it's super simple and people like out there's better ones out there. But you know what? I like it. It really works very well for me.
