Dropping Trees with an Excavator 4K

when you've done something for 30 years it's no longer exciting I remember the first time I ever had to demo a house I ever got to demo didn't have to got to I was so excited I could barely sleep I get to knock down a house I get to knock down a whole house so fun so exciting the first time then I got a contract and I had to knock down 10 houses in a row and that was cool by the time I knocked down about my 40th 50th house really wasn't fun anymore it's it was just work just like all like folding up a deck of cards you got to do this that this that you learn the process you refine it and then it's time to pass those skills along but a lot of times what happens is we guys that have been doing this forever and ever forget how fun and exciting it was in the very very very beginning and sometimes when I'm making these videos for you guys I forget that you've never had a chance to do this you may be seeing it for the first time you may be living vicariously through me and I forget about the excitement that goes along with it anyway I forget how how fun and exciting it can be so um we're going to go up and build a road to me it's going to be work but to you guys I hope it's fun and here's the difference I still do enjoy running equipment because I don't have to do it every day now because I've got guys I've taught my guys how to do the work the dayto day the 9 to 5 the grind 9 to 5 5 to9 The 5 to9 hustle 5: in the morning till 9: at night I have guys that that's how they make their living and it's my obligation to not take that away from them could I go do the work oh absolutely I can do all of the work and I do some of the work I have bought my own equipment so that the guys never touch my equipment because there's equipment that I just want preserved for myself I want to know that if I put a dent in it I blame me I don't want to blame anybody else so I have my equipment they have the equipment that the company runs and the two never intermingle right but I reserve some of that equipment because I don't have to do it dayto day I get to do it so we're going to go build a road I've been looking forward to this for a long time because there's nothing better than hopping in a piece of equipment not worried about how you got to do it for a customer not worried about how you got to do it for a blueprint not worried about anything but just listening to that engine run how the piece of equipment operates just getting the feel for it it's a it's a beautiful beautiful thing it's called equipment therapy at least I call it equipment therapy another person coined the term I I thought that was beautiful cuz after a long stressful hard day just hopping in a piece of equipment and going is just freaking awesome and I know there's some of you guys that just you tune in channels just to watch other people operate but I don't get it here's what I don't don't get I don't get that so you you tell me is that something would it be satisfying to you if I just said nothing and just started running equipment cuz there's channels that just do that and I just look at I'm like what the flip how do you I don't understand they get tons of views and I don't understand how you guys can do that cuz to me that can that's just mind-numbingly boring but that's because that's all I've done for my entire life I mean I've been ran equipment for over 30 some years so to me the excitement is gone is that cool what is that perfect balance to you guys is that cool just get in to start operating or do you get bored with it cuz I get I mean Frick when I'm when I edit some of these videos if it's a long sequence of just running a piece of equipment I'm like oh my God fast forward get this out of here but there's channels that that's all they do and you tell me what is that what's that perfect video and that doesn't have to be me but what is that perfect video that you guys like watching that you could just watch over and over again and why what is the secret that makes you guys happy and want to keep watching I'm interested to know I don't know I haven't figured it out I'm interested to know what you guys think all right guys we are at shangra La douche and I call this shangra La douche cuz this entire property looked like this part of this building I bought the worst property I bought the worst property on on this Lake and the second worst property on this Lake and have completely I mean shangra lodes across the way completely gutted that down to bare bone studs and started all over again and now I'm doing the same thing here we poured we've got a pad going in up there oh it's a hawk it's got something what the heck does it something look at the deer cracks that was a big hog it's got a blue J in I can hear it yeah it's right there it's right in the tree right there right there let's yep I love being up north man hey nothing better I I tell you can't how many times I've walked out in the woods and found a wild porcupine a badger came across a link one time I went a lynx one time I run went around the corner out in the woods a golden eagle was on the ground and this this Golden Eagle makes a a a bald eagle look like the size of a chicken I mean they're so massive Lucy you guys remember my old coonan she died from cancer a couple three four months back and I picked up the new dog Lucy took off running after this golden eagle and I'm screaming stop stop stop this bird was so big it could have picked my freaking dog up and carried it away in fact if you search golden eagle attacking deer online on Google you're going to see picture after picture of golden eagle coming down and but here's a road look at this look at this this is just garbage I got to fix this up I got so this road was built the heart of it is Clay I brought in 30 some truckloads of clay just pure clay and it's built straight up so it's built like a column because I just I couldn't spread the clay out I had to use it all for the heart of the road and then now I've got Sandy or so sand you know I hate sand nothing worse than trying to work in sand it just doesn't cooperate but hey it's better than uh better than Lon Lon I'm sorry there's no other term term for it Lon it's better than that you guys know what Lon is if you don't some of you guys know exactly what I'm talking about Lun is just black soupy nasty dirt that does nothing for you whatsoever it's just that is the legit worst and then sand is the second worst because look it washes all look at that and we've got a concrete truck coming in a day and a half I'll be back up here at 6:30 Saturday morning after I get this road repaired cuz that's when we're going to start pouring concrete up here but let's uh let's hop in the skdy and let's start getting some stuff done so where I grew up you don't waste anything you don't waste food you don't waste clothes and you don't waste wood or trees so everything that we're going to be removing and doing today all of these trees will go back into fire to be firewood or will be processed and used but we've got a bunch of stuff on the edge here that we need to clean whoops why you guys ride with me for a little bit all right we got a good size tree right in front of us right there and we don't want it to fall on the cab this cab does not have the same kind of protection that the skid loaders [Music] have so we just got to be a titch care FL she's up there Widow hanging right now Widow hanging Widow hangers are trees that fall in the woods that end up laying on other trees there we go got her down safe and sound now we got to break her out of that [Music] bank all that good black dirt even that won't go to waste what they do with the black dirt as I've been putting it over here I've been preserving all of the the vegetation on the top and that way I can just lay that back down and I can have my Forest regrowing the entire bionome of the forest sometimes the tracks are more powerful than the boob so we're going to back up using the traps to drag this tree out you can see how she's going right there we'll get that down the excavator in this case just gives us a little bit more control over this tree to be able to try to get this out I'm going to try to turn her and that's about as far as I can go the turn table on an excavator doesn't have a whole lot of power not like your breakout course for digging into the soil what have you [Music] there you go try to keep the tree out of the dirt as much as possible cuz when you go to chainsaw it every time you hit a little chunky chunk of dirt you're basically wrecking your [Music] all right let's try to get the root balls of these two trees lined up that might be a tiny bit tricky like I said trees don't like to spin the turntable of an excavator that's the ability to go left and right isn't nearly as strong as your ability to dig straight up and down and not I'm not saying that for you guys that know how to run excavators cuz you obviously know I'm saying that for the guys that are watching along and kind of living vicariously through us through our experiences our mistakes just like that one ha what the mistake was that I dropped the tree I didn't have it clamp it's cuz you guys were distracting me it's your [Music] fault go get them root balls lined up as best we can we got them over there lined up we can do a little bit of a better job we'll back up
