even tell you how bad of an idea or hack this is this truly is a hack so um petroleum jelly is a contaminant no matter how how hard you try to keep it off the door and only on your Hardware you're gonna get it on the door somewhere once you get petroleum jelly on a Surface you cannot paint over that petroleum jelly it's got a fisheye the paint won't stick yeah it won't stick to your doorknob but it won't stick to the door either where you're trying to paint also when you wipe that petroleum jelly off your door petroleum jelly just does not wipe off you're going to have to take something like acetone to completely get it off because what's going to happen it's going to clap dust and dirt and debris over time in your doorknob is going to be all nasty and dirty looking if you try to clean it off with acetone a finish like this it's probably going to take the finish off your doorknob also this is something you simply do not want to do don't do this
