What happens here

This project demonstrates the critical importance of proper drip edge and starter shingle installation on a roof. Using a mock-up, the video first illustrates how an improperly installed starter shingle or a 'tight' drip edge can lead to water wicking back onto the fascia and potentially into the wall, causing damage. It then shows how correcting this issue by ensuring proper spacing and placement of the starter shingle allows the drip edge to effectively direct water away from the roof edge, preventing moisture infiltration.

When your drip edge is ran tight, the water goes from here, down, around, and goes down your fascia, and even can run back all the way to your wall. If we pull out our starter and shingle, this water stays away from the drip edge and doesn't even have a chance to make it back. As you see here, we stay dry all the way through. It's best to pull both out, but even in this case, it still doesn't really make it back to the drip edge. While your drip edge is supposed to be gapped, we all know it doesn't always happen.
