DECK FRAMING - How To Install A Deck Ledger Board
What happens here
To create a clean, durable surface and facilitate proper flashing for the new ledger, the crew decides to install a 1x6 PVC trim board. First, the existing siding is cut to a precise height using a DeWalt circular saw with a siding guide, creating a clean, straight line above the future ledger height. A chalk line is used to mark this cut. Next, the 1x6 PVC trim board is fastened levelly using a nail gun and checked with a level. Finally, a piece of counter flashing, made from aluminum flashing, is meticulously tucked behind the existing siding (above the PVC trim board) and extended down to overlap the newly installed PVC trim board. This critical layer ensures that any water coming down the siding will flow over the counter flashing and past the ledger, rather than getting behind it.
Goal: Prepare the house for the ledger with a durable trim board and effective counter flashing.
