all today in this video guys we have a service call a customer called saying that they wanted to get their current Tesla charger upgraded because they said that they're getting 11 amps and they wanted to get it to 40 amps when he told me that I was like hm 11 amps that's really low and the customer said yeah I actually had a handyman what bro what are you talking about man install this Tesla charger and I want to get it installed by professional electrician so really rang a bell in my ear we gave a price to upgrade the current wire size to six gauge which is typically rated for a 40 amp getting jobs right away let's jump into the video guys service call Tesla charger boom all right guys we at the customer's house he lives in a single family home here is his Tesla Model S I had to blow out his license plate you know for privacy reasons but here we go let's get into it no but I think handyman I think handyman stall this uh general contractor like 4 years ago is that what he said yeah he's got he's got some things wrong completely yeah what do he got first off guys so we see this we come to the customer's house this guy's got a 30 amp he's got the hots spr he's got the he's got the one hot right here and the other hot here but and you're supposed to separate neutral and grounds then address the situation and we might have to go with the new price cuz yeah obviously this is the scope was to fix this but this if you want to get this inspected fixed that's going to have to be addressed that does not look correct at all all right guys so as you can see here is the miswired sub panel the customer had at his house now originally the only scope of the job was just to upgrade the amperage for the Tesla charger but since this sub panel is not wired correctly also that it is missing connectors and it is connected to the Tesla charger it puts us in a hard position because we have to now tell the homeowner after giving an agreed price that's it's going to have to be more because we have to now fix another job to get the original job desired job finished for example it's like a person going to the dentist and that person tells the dentist that they want to get a basic cleaning and the dentist goes sure it's going to be $150 the person pulls up to the office and also when he pulls up he has bleeding gums now the dentist is going to have to fix the person's bleeding gums before giving a proper cleaning cuz what is the point of a proper teeth cleaning if your gums are still bleeding and this is and this applies to also electrician electrical contractors now for our job we're gonna have to now explain to the customer that this job is going to cost more and I'm sure he's not g to be happy with that we should probably address that honestly it's going to need more money yeah we got to get the he wants inspected this inspected well I'm sure they're going to look at it what does he want inspected for I guess just general safety he wants to like safety I'm sure this wasn't done by electrician take the top off mhm deodorant his main concern is to run is to get the Tesla run quicker right yeah he doesn't never really said sizing and then we let's get his Tesla running quicker but also he want safety too yeah well that's it's going to be [Music] more it's fine he has the we all right guys so the customer gave us the green light we told him to upch charge and he's okay with it because he knew honestly deep down that this got done by a handyman and he wants to get done correctly so we got the green light to go so let's begin you get this right Chris what I do is that I'll cut this cut that I don't know what this is for so we removed the sub panel as you can see here are the wires that are coming from the Tesla charger and uh there was no neutral in the original sub panel that was here so we're installing a white neutral wire coming from the main into the new sub panel so stay tuned all right guys so now we just installed a 3/4 in conduit nipple it actually is under the main panel going right into the sub panel so that's how we connected our two panels together and have the wire fish through and here I'm just showing you guys uh the process of installing the sub panel so we got the new sub panel in we repaired the drywall here's the wiring guys what it looks like inside a Tesla wall connector now this is the Gen 2 Tesla wall connector they're currently now To This Day in 2025 up to the Gen 3 so here's the wiring two Hots and a ground black wires hot one red wires hot to and green wires ground and we even upgraded this sub panel guys to a 60 amp so we got number six THHN wire being ran into this panel and here it is guys so it actually wasn't as bad that we thought and we got the wire the sub panel now installed correctly with its proper hot wires and it's now neutral and it's proper separated Ground Bar and here is the charger guys and the Tesla being charged correctly and customer is satisfied we are satisfied we are happy that everyone's happy and we are now putting on the cover to the new sub panel and yeah that's pretty much it it's time to get paid all right guys hope you guys enjoyed the guess that handyman you know he didn't know what he was doing but now the homeowner decided you know what let me bite the bullet let me let me pay now and let me get a qualified license electrician and that's why he called us and we're satisfied he's satisfied everybody's happy and um yep that's pretty much it now I'm wearing a hard hat guys you probably are wondering like why am I wearing a hard hat in my bedroom hard hats are really mainly for commercial electricians I'm mainly a residential electrician so I don't really wear hard hats when I go to customers houses this is mainly for
