What happens here

Once the wooden parts are clean and dry, use an orbital sander with a vacuum attachment to smooth the wood surface. Begin with a coarser grit sandpaper (e.g., 100-120 grit) to remove any remaining imperfections or raised grain, then progress to a finer grit (e.g., 180-220 grit) for a smooth finish suitable for staining.
